I have done something to my knee, thrown it out perhaps, that makes it painful to walk up hills. This is extremely annoying, given that I have to walk UP A HILL to get home from the nearest bus stop. It's actually been doing this for a couple of weeks now, but tonight it was particularly annoying--maybe because of the extra walking I did at lunchtime.

I think I'm going to have to call the chiropractor and have her look at this.

Miles out of Rivendell: 180.85

A cold compress alternated with a heting pad will help out a lot. Sounds like it's just not used to the extra walking is all. Worry if it swells up.

A glucosamine/chondroitin mix helps for longer-term health, too; I know my ankle had been protesting just how far and fast the rest of me wanted to go, but three or four days of one g/c tab a day, and it no longer protests. Not to say that the chiropractor won't fix the acute problem, but the g/c will help keep it from becoming chronic.

*sigh* we're getting *old*, you and I and everyone around us... but as [livejournal.com profile] jenkitty says, it sure beats the alternative. Especially when we've got good people to grow old with.

I have my qualms about "Old and stuck in bed and only making the doctors rich"... but if I can be as spry as my grandmother who at age 78 drug us around a World's Fair site until 10:30 at night, I won't mind the daily routine of staying that healthy...

how old are the shoes you've been doing all this (very commendable) walking in? I have feet problems that were cut in half by a replacement pair of shoes (i.e. same shoe, just not a worn-out edition)

my podiatrist recommends replacing running shoes once a year, as they lose most of their shock absorption by then. don't know about other kinds of shoes, though.
