My ability to keep focused today has been absolutely destroyed by last night's GBS fangirlishness. I keep fantasizing having a kitchen party with (as [livejournal.com profile] wingedelf so colorfully described it) a whack o' Newfoundlanders, and in this Alternate Fantasy Universe, I would even be able to pick up my bouzouki in the presence of Alan Doyle and play it so I sound like I know what I'm doing. It is a lovely daydream. It is not letting me get a lick of work done, either. ;)

Tangentially related, I have only just learned today that the lady who ran greatbigsea.com for forever and ever, Joanne, recently punted in favor of the new folks running the place. She posted on the OKP about this back in November or so, and invited people to email her at her private address to keep in touch. I sent her an email today to thank her for all the great work she did on greatbigsea.com over the years. If you'd like to do the same, ping me. I don't want to post her email address publically without her permission, so I won't post it here.

Also? I blame [livejournal.com profile] silme711 for tilting my brain with this shiny new Jack Aubrey wallpaper she made. I think I know what's going onto my desktop as soon as I get home to my laptop.

In less fangirly news, if y'all didn't know already, you might want to check out the latest LJ News post. Short form is, they've rearranged a lot of the URLs for how to get to stuff on the site. All user journals now, paid or otherwise, are accessible via username.livejournal.com. Communities are community.livejournal.com/communityname. This confused the hell out of me last night when all of a sudden my writing journal stopped showing me all the locked posts. What I had to do to fix it was to tweak my cookie settings in my browser so that it understood that it could accept cookies from the new URL types too. So if you see similar behavior, check your cookie settings!

While I am reluctant to mention this lest I jinx it... it may be that the weather around here is actually IMPROVING.

If anyone's actually paying attention, I'm also finally working on fixing my broken web page.

Posts like this are among the many reasons I adore my beloved [livejournal.com profile] solarbird. Hee hee BRING IT COPPERS *snicker*.

Snurched from [livejournal.com profile] fleurdelista, I bring you this tale of a guy in Kent, England, who got himself arrested for NOT carrying out a hit. On the MurkMUSH, this provoked two reactions: 1) "Who knew there were hitmen in KENT?", and 2) "SNODLAND?!"

Lastly, I did finish [livejournal.com profile] amiable_geek and Lawrence Watt-Evans' The Spartacus File. Short review: as previously mentioned, light, fast, engaging read. Not to be taken too seriously, and very light on characterization; I don't know if that's an artifact of Carl's writing or Lawrence's, since I'd never read anything by Lawrence before. Actually, the book was rather light on detail in general, since it was very short and didn't really have time to develop things in intricate depth. But all of that was okay, once I got into the general "flavor" of the book. My one quibble, I think, was the ending--which I will not address in detail, and of which I will say only that while it didn't surprise me that things played out that way, I'm kind of sorry they did just because of where I imagine it leaving the main character.

I tend to go through and save everything, then go back at a later date and sort. Sheesh...if I kept them all, I'd have no room for anything else on this computer. (it's a bit of a dinosaur)
