It is quite, quite windy in the Seattle area today, enough that our power flickered at least once before I left the house, and our UPS went off in the server room. On my way from the bus stop at 4th and Union down to Real, my hat blew off twice--once right into the middle of the intersection, and I think a car squished it a little. There's no obvious damage or stains, but there's a bit of a crease in the brim now.
solarbird says that the radio reports traffic is wacky all over, due to downed limbs and such, and
spazzkat said he thinks there was a traffic light out on Main Street in Bothell.
In unrelated news, work is really slow right now, and is likely to be at least into next week. As I am however grateful to have any work at all, I shan't complain too much. And if nothing else, maybe I can try to work on Queen of Souls.
Which reminds me. If you're on the Writing filter on this journal and you're not looking at
annathewriter and you want to be, let me know. Since I'm about to be posting the first draft of the pitch for Queen of Souls over yonder, more helpful voices to help me bang it into shape will be welcome. ^_^

Date: 2006-01-10 07:58 pm (UTC)I wonder if it's the same ahole who tossed an empty 22 ounce beer bottle onto my lawn? If those drunks take the corner too fast and bounce down the hill onto my driveway, the first thing I'm gonna do is pepper-spray them.

Date: 2006-01-10 11:24 pm (UTC)We're excited about the Tucson GBS show, so I dropped by the OKP today for the first time in ages. When that reminded me that you were on LJ, I bopped over here to see what you'd been up to. I think my very first post on LJ was a comment on your review of that show. I'm trying to actually keep an active LJ now, instead of a poor neglected one, so I hope you don't mind if I stop by now and then here. (Now, if I could just figure how to use the LJcut -- succinct is not in my vocabulary, and my posts tend toward the gargantuan.)
Mind if I add you to my friends?

Date: 2006-01-10 11:32 pm (UTC)Mostly what I have been up to lately is trying to figure out the proper dosage of Synthroid to take now that I don't have a thyroid anymore, dealing with a new contract job (and trying to get a Real Job if possible), and dealing with writing (trying to work on two books at once right now). And, of course, being very happy that GBS is coming back to Seattle soon. :D
Glad to hear you're going to get to see the B'ys in Tuscon, too!
LJ cuts are easy. I'll be happy to walk you through that if you like?

Date: 2006-01-11 07:12 pm (UTC)And since I'm so forgetful...what kind of IT work is it that you do? I know a couple of people that may need help. Are you able to access computers remotely?

Date: 2006-01-11 07:20 pm (UTC)What I have done historically is a) software testing and b) localization. In recent years it's been more software testing, and I'm kind of hoping to move into areas that let me test on non-Windows platforms (especially Linux). I have my very own Internet site and constant bandwidth, so working by remote would probably not be a problem.
However, I am on contract right now and will be until June, so I'm not really in a position to take on other professional obligations. Assuming certain other prospects don't materialize (she said, looking meaningfully in Google's direction), what happens in June is still open for debate. :)

Date: 2006-01-14 05:08 am (UTC)Wow. What you do sounds much more interesting than the jobs I know about. Mainly what I hear about is Windows-based networking for small businesses. And occasionally website design/programming. If after your contract is over, and you need something to fill in the gaps, let me know. I always know of people looking networking help, if you don't mind stooping to that level. :) It's not glamorous, but it pays well.
