The Great Big Plan

This is probably a bit premature given that the show is still over a month away, but hey, some advance planning can't hurt! So I'm thinkin', it would be really fun to see if a group of local folks attending the 2/11 GBS show at the Moore might gather at Kell's after to hang out and chat and just generally be social. mamishka and I will be attending the show together, and my off-LJ friend and ex-fellow-jammer Fred (a.k.a. U.S. Navy Sailor for those of you from the OKP) will be at the show too. I know writersweekend is going. Anybody else?

If you're going to the show and are interested in meeting at Kell's, sing out! Look here for the address and directions on how to find it. It's very near Pike Place Market, and very, VERY near the Moore. They're both between Virginia and Stewart!

Also, for giggles and grins, The Doyle Himself has surfaced on his From the Road journal on greatbigsea.com, and he has this to say about what we can expect at the show:

"The shows should be fun. We intend to do two sets in mostly theatres across North America. The first set will be dedicated to Folk Songs of Newfoundland from the new CD and of course from the catalogue as well. Lukey and Captain Kidd in the same set? Hold on to your seats. The second set will be a bit of a free-for-all each night where we’ll play our and your favourites and whatever occurs to us."

So apparently, the B'ys are opening for themselves this time around. ;)

I don't have a completely purple hat, and it's not exactly floppy, but I do have one that's purple and red and blue and green. You're probably thinking of that!

Why does the idea of the second set being 'a bit of a free-for-all' fill me with a sort of nervous glee? :) I have a feeling that this could be one wild show!

All I got to say is, I'm hoping we get Séan in a mood to do the Elvis impersonations and the tearing through "All Shook Up" he has been rumored to do in other shows. ;D

This is news to me. But, then, we all know I'm sorely out of the loop and behind the times. They cover "All Shook Up"?

They don't do it on a regular basis, but I heard tell on the Fishtank one day that they did it for giggles at one of their shows a year or two ago. As I was an Elvis fan long before I ever heard of Great Big Sea, this caused me much, MUCH amusement. ^_^

Okay, I can get this: é (hope that works) But how do you get the character into the name without putting spaces between the first three letters?

Don't worry about the spaces. Just type it straight like this: S&eacute;an

Then it'll come out Séan and all will be well. Surrounding the name with "Mr." and "McCann", or following it with "Bodhran God", or appending suitable swoonage, is entirely optional. ;)

Wait. That doesn't sound quite right...Or maybe it does! ;)
