Things are improving
Dec. 29th, 2005 02:37 pmYesterday's endoc visit took longer than I liked--when I'm on an hourly wage, a two-hour lunch break isn't exactly ideal--but it did have the result that I am now authorized to go up to 150mcg for my daily dose of Synthroid. After I chatted with the doctor about the experiences I've been having since going up to 137mcg, she seemed to agree with my gut feeling that I was maybe about 90 percent of where I needed to be. Today was my first morning on 150mcg, and I'm not quite sure I can feel a difference. I've noticed feeling a bit more wired every time I've jumped up in dosage before, but this time the jump is small enough that I'm not sure I can attribute today's energy level to that, to improved sleep and more exercise, or all of the above. Also, this dosage means I get to use up my leftover 100's, too, which is good. I disliked not being able to use medicines I'd paid for.
Whatever's going on, though, is also bringing my muse back online. I'm starting to feel ready to tackle writing again, and have even been tempted to try something the last couple of nights. I figure if I come out of furlough earlier than I officially planned, that's probably a good thing!
In other news,
spazzkat is safely back from Virginia, and in honor of his return we traded stockings last night. But we're holding off on the main gift exchange event till
mamishka can join us! And I shall have to stoically ration my shiny new stash of candy. ;)

Date: 2005-12-30 05:41 pm (UTC)I get Synthroid for about $27 a pop. I suppose I could ask for the generic, but so far the Synthroid's treating me okay, I can afford it, and that's what my endoc prescribed for me, so. But I still dislike wasting meds, so I'm glad I didn't throw the leftover 100's out!

Date: 2005-12-30 04:29 pm (UTC)But I've got a referrel up to Capstone Medical, from Student Health, so I'm hoping this new doc will have some better ideas. I also plan on asking about armor thyroid, and what to do about my goiter i.e. slightly enlarge thyroid. it's a bit scary for me.

Date: 2005-12-30 05:46 pm (UTC)Last night though I slept great, so I'm hoping that I've hit the magic number with my latest bump in dosage.
Here's hoping you can get some good data out of the new doc! What's armor thyroid? And it sounds like to me that you may still be on too low of a dosage, if your thyroid's bigger than it should be. As I understand it the thyroid pulls stunts like that when it thinks it's not working hard enough. I suspect that's why mine kept spawning mutant growths until we yanked it out. ;P

Date: 2005-12-31 09:07 pm (UTC)I'm hoping it's as simple as needing a higher dose. I'm on Lexapro right now, and still feeling depression. I know I get seasonal affective disorder in the winter, but this shouldn't this bad. I've been wanting to hibernate badly. :(

Date: 2005-12-31 09:51 pm (UTC)*more snugs* Here's hoping. I've had to have my dose adjusted four times now, but from what I was hearing from one of the women who was telling me about her own thyroid experiences last year, this is not at all uncommon. And having to go through all the annoyance of figuring out the right dosages was the worst part about the whole experience for her. Hang in there!
And happy belated birthday, by the way!
