Today's job front update: another Volt recruiter called me today with a nibble about a couple of STE contracts downtown. I've sent her my resume and a cover letter. And in a couple more hours, I'll have me a phone screening. Tomorrow, I go to Bellevue for a chat with another recruiter. So things continue to be nicely busy. Hopefully a job will shake itself out of all this activity soon.

Check it out: I am almost to Rivendell. I should make it to Rivendell tomorrow, if I work this right! I figure if I take the bus to my interview in Bellevue, I can easily get in the miles walking to and from the proper bus stop. As a bonus, if I do this right, I can get to Bellevue on just one bus, which would be cool.

I've had writer's block for the last couple of days, but kathrynt helped me beat up on some of it last night. Unfortunately another Big Important Question emerged in the middle of that, one which may slow me down considerably in working through the next couple of chapters. Grf!

It's news to me! (Though, reading comments on gamera_spinning and xkot's journals, I see it's not exactly news to folks more involved with the convention circuit than I am. ;) )

If our management does what's logical and follows the recommendations that several people have made, I'll have a senior tester position open in a week or two which i should get to fill. I think with your test and web background, you're my top choice at present.

Yes, the company is sometimes messed up, but i think all in all it's going to be stable employment and if there's any way to shield people from the politics and assorted crap, i'll do it.

If there's anything I've learned in my years in the tech industry, it's that every single team at every single company will have some level of politics and crap to deal with. The question will just be how much. ;)

No, I'm apparently in the half of fandom that hadn't clued in yet. It's been about a 50/50 mix in the reactions across my Friends list. I'm seeing a lot of how it's not been exactly a secret in actual Trek fandom, but well hey, I'm not really IN Trek fandom specifically. ;)

I find that many queerfolk aren't necessarily "obvious". :) Even if they aren't actually in the closet.

I haven't read the whole thing myself... I got it at the Farpoint Convention he was at (He's a member of IFT, and they had a luncheon for him there for IFT members- that's how i got to meet him- ask me for the story if interested) and misplaced it... just found it a few weeks ago while moving so may start it again.

it's not really all that long... IFT organized a lunch with George Takei at the Farpoint Convention in '02 (last con I attended) and since i had the extra money to attend, I paid it and kits_kat and I went. Figuring we'd be lucky if we could just see him from somewhere around the middle of the long table, we sat down and waited for him to take a seat at the head of the table. To our surprise, he sat directly across from me, and started a conversation with me, asking about me, what I did for a living, where I lived, hobbies, etc. It was quite refreshing, and I enjoyed the conversation. It was like he's just another person, and the fame didn't get to his head. Afterward, I got him to sign his book and got my picture taken with him. Would like the opportunity to meet him again.

I pride myself on my trekkiness, but I tend not to worry about the actors themselves, more of the shows.

Heh, you've got more Trek cred than I do, even. I'm really mostly a TOS-girl, myself. That's the only Trek I've liked to regularly go back and re-watch.

(I hung in there for most of TNG, and there's some prime storytelling in the best seasons, but my Trek fandom started petering out in the later seasons and partway into DS9. I didn't make it past the first season of Voyager at all, and while Enterprise started well for me, I lost interest in that too.)

I like me some Trek, but I'm not really in Trek fandom. :) Though from what I'm seeing posted about this elsewhere, the folks who are deeply enough into Trek fandom that they've seen/talked to/worked with the various Trek actors at conventions are not surprised by this news at all. Heh.
