Things are looking hopeful on the job front as of this week, to be sure. I got a couple more recruiter calls today, and one of them was a lady who wants me to come see her on Friday and have a preliminary chat about a position she has available. AND, AND, AND, not only am I trying to get a phone screening arranged with Google, but Amazon called me back with a followup to the phone screening I had with them last week, which rather shocked me, because I didn't expect to hear back from them at all. They want to do another phone screening with me. My phone connection with their recruiter kept cutting out on me, so I'm not entirely sure whether this is related to the position that the first phone screening was for or whether this is for a completely separate position; I think it's the latter. Guess we're going to see what happens!

Knocked off more miles on the treadmill, which brings me all the closer to Rivendell. If I work this out right I will hit Rivendell by Friday. YAY!

[livejournal.com profile] mamishka is coming over tonight to get caught up on Lost. We need to get going on watching Charlie Jade still, but this will require the use of one of the house laptops since we have all of Charlie Jade on kimo and our DVD player doesn't play burned DVDs. Foo. I need to figure out what I need for a cable to make my laptop talk to the television.

I have just whipped through Elizabeth Lowell's The Secret Sister, purchased as a fluff read, and that was about what I got. It's another of her older books that's apparently been retooled for re-release; the older edition was called The Secret Sisters. I didn't like this one as much as I've liked most of her other books, unfortunately. There was decent chemistry between the heroine and hero, but the plot was rather thin, and the characters responsible for causing the conflict of the story spent way too little time actually on camera. The character most responsible for the conflict wasn't ever on camera at all, and we hear from her only once, via a phone call to the heroine. All of the actions of the bad guys are perfunctory, and I never really got the sense that they were an active threat to the lovebirds. Lowell's done better. And this makes two of her books in a row I haven't cared for much. I'll give her one more shot with Always Time to Die as soon as it hits paperback, but if that one falls flat on me too I'll have to stop buying her books. Foo.
