Happy GBS Album Release Day!
Oct. 11th, 2005 12:30 pmWell, I made it home on the bike last night, biking the whole distance from Borg to Kenmore. It was probably a more challenging time of day and in more challenging weather than a newbie biker might really have been wisest to try; I got rained on for a good stretch of the way, and it started getting dark about halfway through the ride. But I had a big yen to see if I could make it, so I didn't leave the trail in search of a bus at any point! And I had to get off the bike and walk only a couple of times along the way. A couple of passing bikers kindly called out to ask if I was all right, which was nice of them, and I cheerfully called back that I was okay, just taking a walking break. I think I also passed the same guy who'd stopped in the morning to help me figure out that the rattly noises my bike was making were from my kickstand.
Anyway, I made it home, and my beloved
solarbird turned on the fireplace for me and brought a blanket and my laptop to the comfy chair by the fireplace, and
risu made me tea. It was a good evening, even if I didn't get much writing done and mostly pondered the various clever ideas that
kathrynt had winged at me at
chipmunck's place.
I decided that two big bike trips in a row was probably a bit much for me--so I didn't bike in today. But I will definitely be biking again soon.
In the meantime, it's my LAST! DAY! OF! WORK! And I re-activated my resume on Monster and Dice, only to come home and find a call from a contractor recruiter type guy--in Milwaukee, oddly enough, but calling about a contract in Bothell. He balked a bit when I told him that my minimum asking rate was $25 an hour, though, and said he'd "get back to me". This probably means "no", but well hey. We'll see what happens.
Amusingly, another party emailed me due to my resume on Monster, and asked if I was interested in a position as a technical recruiter. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... uh, no. I told him so. Except without the hysterical giggling part.
And last but not least, all the Canadian GBS fans on my Friends list get to enjoy the shiny new release of The Hard and the Easy today. And the U.S. fans can enjoy it if they download it off of iTunes, I have learned! Not me, not yet; even at the cheaper iTunes price I can't really afford to buy it twice, so I'm hanging in there for the physical copy of the album. Because DVD. BUT, the B'ys also sent around an email to the official band mailing list telling us all about a PODCAST, which I will also be listening to with great pleasure the moment I get home. I hear rumors that it talks about their desire to do an entirely a capella CD. I am forced to wonder if those b'ys are sitting there in St. John's, right now, as we speak, plotting with one another about how to make me swoon--because that ranks pretty high up there as one of the ways, not far behind naked bouzouki lessons with The Doyle.
And with GBS in mind, everybody say hiya to
mari_mac1109, joining my Friends list as of today! She's coming in off
greatbigsea, and has gleefully Friended me on account of I'm suitably fangirly. I offered by way of proof of this that I wrote Alan's hair its very own sonnet.
Monday miles: roughly 30 (biking!)
Tuesday morning miles: 0.7 (walking)
Miles out of Hobbiton: 411.45
Miles to Rivendell: 46.55

Date: 2005-10-11 08:35 pm (UTC)And I just got jobspam mail that looks like some recruiting firm or other found my resume on Dice and had their jobbot spit out a query mail to me. Which is all well and good, except its Reply-To field was set to John.Skalberg@murkworks.net. GENIUS!
Ah, the joys of hunting for jobs!
