Official GBS release for The Hard and the Easy

Just got this over the GBS mailing list, folks, for those of you who aren't on it.

The good news: looks like Alan and Bob are going to be hitting locales across Canada to promote the album. AND, note the bit about a tour next year!

The bad news: those of us in the U.S. don't get the album until the 25th. WAAAAAAAH!

Great Big Sea Get Set To Release
The Hard and The Easy on
Tuesday October 11th, 2005

For immediate release:

Warner Music Canada is proud to announce that Great Big Sea will release
their eighth album, The Hard and The Easy, in Canada on Tuesday October
11th, 2005 (US release scheduled for October 25th). This release marks the
first time that the band has recorded a full album of traditional and local
Newfoundland songs, one that spans the spectrum of the provinces songbook.

Weve always wanted to do this kind of album, said Alan Doyle. The fans ask
for it, certainly, but it is more about the quality of the songs. This
music is what makes Great Big Sea special and unique. Were proud of these
songs and very much love the place they come from.

Great Big Sea has added a special bonus for fans who buy The Hard and The
Easy. Included with the CD is a 50 minute DVD on which they discuss the
history of the songs on the record and then perform them in and around their
homes with local friends. The DVD strips bare the studio façade of
recording and presents these classic tales as they have been handed down
over the years.

The band will celebrate the release of The Hard and The Easy with
interactive listening sessions launched in seven cities across Canada (dates
listed below). Alan Doyle and Bob Hallett will travel across the country to
play the record for fans and talk with them about the unique history of the
songs. Winners will be able to attend these events though local media
contesting.

The Hard and the Easy is the latest chapter in the inspiring saga of Great
Big Sea. Emerging from Newfoundland in 1993 with their self-titled debut,
the band proceeded to take Canada by storm with their uplifting acoustic
rock sound and captivating live performances. Subsequent albums including
Up, Play, Turn, Sea of No Cares, Something Beautiful are all certified gold
or platinum, have cumulatively sold over one million copies in Canada. Great
Big Sea will launch a North American Tour on January 31st, 2006.

Heh, yeah, as I just posted over on the community, the only thing keeping me from placing an online order right this instant is that I actually like going into a store to buy a physical copy... and that I've been looking forward to a bike trip to go get one in a local store. I figure that if a GBS album is waiting for me, that's a hugely inspiring reason to bike. ;)

However, Vancouver is now looking AWFULLY tempting!

Oooh, if I had the opportunity to go to Vancouver I'd take it.

I actually do most of my shopping online because there are no stores in the town I moved here from so I'm used to depending on it to get stuff.

solarbird DID utter the words "Road Trip!" when I told her the album was coming out two weeks later for us. Oh, it's a hard call. Vancouver is about two or three hours north of us depending on traffic, so I have to juggle the expense of gas and feeding us en route for the sake of instant gratification, vs. waiting two weeks and buying it locally, and having a good excuse to bike.

Aigh! Maybe if we got to visit friends up in Vancouver while we were up there... aigh! Clearly, I'm going to fret about this all day. :)

How far away from Montreal are you? I'm two-three hours, sometimes longer depending on the border crossing time and traffic, away from Vancouver.

Heh, only Great Big Sea could get me to cross a national border just to buy an album!

ravyngyngvar IS coming to visit in about that time frame, so it might be cool to do a road trip up to Vancouver on his behalf, which is way less silly in my brain than crossing a national border just for the express purpose of buying a record because I can't wait for two weeks. ;)

Also, someone has wisely pointed out on the Fishtank that U.S. fans really ought to buy the album in the States, so's to boost the band's U.S. sales. Which is, well, true!

That is indeed Polly! spazzkat took the picture some time ago; I only recently had solarbird turn it into an icon for me.
