I think I have the plague

Or at least the flu. I have a bit of a headache, a bit of a sore throat, a touch of a cough, and my internal temperature is wonky. solarbird thinks I caught something at NASFiC, as I had earlier opined.

She also came and got me from work, bringing my favorite fleece & flannel blanket with her so I could curl up under it in the car. I have a good spouse.

This afternoon, I think I shall curl up with this blanket, watch Invader Zim and look for further icon-worthy moments ("Not now, son! I'm making... TOAST!" and "Doom! Doom! Doom! Go home now!" both come to mind), take Nyquil at prescribed times, and try to fight off whatever's trying to waylay my system. Zzzzzzzzzzz.

If you've got the crud that's going around, I *strongly* suggest antibiotics - I toughed it out, and have been sick for 3 weeks. legalese got drugs, and knocked it out in 48 hours...

On the other hand, she also reports that she's now read that somebody else at CascadiaCon (with whom we did not interact, but) has been reported to have the whooping cough. Joy.

I don't think they do help flu - flu's viral, & antibiotics are only anti-bacterial.

Moderate fever, sore throat, deep, phlegm-y cough, exhaustion?

The cough has only shown up a couple of times so far and it's very light, but it feels like it might get deeper. I've got the other things, though.

As you know, antibiotics aren't any good unless you've got something bacterial, but a doc should be able to tell you that. If it's viral, don't take the ABs.

Let Invader Zim cheer you up - it seems like everybody keeps telling me I MUST SEE Invader Zim. Sometimes I regret only getting 7 and a half channels... ;)

Dara definitely thinks I have the flu, especially now that my temperature is over 100. Bah.

And yes, you should see Zim! We have it all on DVD now. But don't come over while I am enplagued!

Rachel and I usually refer to the post con flu as Confluenza. And we get it, inevitably, after every convention we attend. :)

Ah well, conventions are fun and usually worth it afterwards.

Dara called my surgeon just to make sure that we didn't have to worry about my having the flu so close to surgery; she said that there is in fact a nasty flu going around. If you're worried, best thing I can suggest is that you dress sensibly, drink a lot of fluids, and bolster your immune system with extra vitamin C and zinc lozenges.

Don't know what you've got over there, but when I had a magnificent flu two years ago, I took Paracet for the fever and the headache, and Ricola for the throat and my general craving for something to suck. :-)

Same thing when I managed to get chickenpox a year ago, plus whitewash for the itching. Don't know how much it helped, since it still itched like the devil, but I couldn't bear the thought that it might be *worse* without it.

I'm working on it, and indeed, I am grateful for the presence of others. :)

I've been slogging through this flu mostly courtesy of Nyquil, hot tea, and lots of water, Gatorade, and sleep. My fever broke overnight between Thursday and Friday, and at this point I've only got a lingering cough.
