A conversation on MurkMUSH
Jul. 8th, 2005 12:51 pmThis is exactly how my next thyroid surgery should go. Because if they're going to go in for a second battle with my mutant space thyroid, I should damn well get superpowers.
Anna sulks as more thyroid surgery also means she'll have to spend some weeks not being able to sing again. Foo. :) Chibi Inuyasha says "Erf" Chibi Inuyasha snugs Anna sighs and snugs, but does take consolation in that it could be worse, it might be a broken arm and I wouldn't be able to play my guitar. ;P :) .Jenna says "But maybe afterwards you'll have SUPERVOICE, like how Daredevil got supersenses and the turtles their super-kung-fu." .Jenna says "That was from toxic chemicals and not thyroid surgery, but still, I can imagine an Origin." Anna hrmms. Anna is pretty sure there'd be superpowers involved only if I had radiation treatment! You say "I mean, radiation -> super powers, as Comic Books teach us!" .Jenna | "When Anna Korra'ti, or TREBLE CLEF, woke up from her thyroid surgery, she discovered that she had three times the range and power of an ordinary human singer!" You say "Oh, so in other words, I get to sing like Sean McCann? COOL! ;)" .Jenna | "Donning the cape and staff of TREBLE CLEF, she set forth to right the wrongs of the world and, apparently, join Great Big Sea!" Anna beams! Anna | That she was neither a Newfoundlander nor a boy deterred the intrepid Treble Clef for an instant. "Besides," she was heard to add by this reporter, "I know the sequence of notes that Bob uses to open the Portal to Hell." Chibi Inuyasha says "Anna's wrist beeps" Chibi Inuyasha| Anna's Wrist: TROUBLE TREBLE! Chibi Inuyasha says "Hee" Chibi Inuyasha says "Cue Theme Music" Anna | Alan Doyle has laryngitis! You will have to be LEAD SINGER AT THE NEXT CONCERT! Chibi Inuyasha says "Or at the very least they'll need you to preform mouth to mouth to revive him" Anna nobly and self-sacrificingly steps up to the task!

Date: 2005-07-08 08:47 pm (UTC)Indeed... I really like what the surgery has done to my own voice; it's changed it from a squeaky tenor to a very nice basso profundo... of course, a lot of that probably has to do with the fact that there's not this MASS squashing my windpipe all out of proportion (wait'll I get the CT scan up on the web, it doesn't *look* gory but if you think about it too hard it'll give you the willies for sure...)
Good luck with it... when, did they say?

Date: 2005-07-08 08:56 pm (UTC)We don't have a "when" yet--the only thing I have scheduled as of right now is a consulation on the 20th with the surgeon, Dr. Stickney, who did the procedure last year. It'll be all about making sure she's up to date, and re-briefing me on how things should go, and all that. Probably at that point will be when a surgery is actually scheduled. Since I had a similarly-timed consulation last year, I would expect that my surgery will wind up being some time in early August.
And yes, Alan Doyle is GBS's lead singer, and the one over whom I swoon the hardest. :) (Though he is more properly the primary lead singer, as Sean McCann also sings lead on about a third of the songs, and from a purely technical musical standpoint he actually has a better voice.)

Date: 2005-07-09 05:14 pm (UTC)That is odd that your therapy, etc. has adjusted your singing voice, but at least it's been on the positive side!

During that time my throat would get tired if I talked for too long--or if I tried to sing outside about an octave or so in the very middle of my range. It was very vexing, too, because it meant that I couldn't properly belt out several of my very favorite Great Big Sea songs. :)
And yeah, since then I've noticed that my voice does actually sound a little stronger and clearer. I'm pretty sure it's because of the same thing that
