Back from Vancouver, and fried
Jun. 24th, 2005 08:29 am+0: First and foremost--made it safely back from Vancouver and the Serenity screening!
jessicac,
mamishka, and I had a delightful time. We had no trouble at the border in either direction, and going into Canada, we weren't asked for our papers at all. On the way home our driver's licenses and birth certificates were deemed acceptable, and moreover, we had a lovely chat with the older gent manning the booth at that hour. Jessica and Meems both gushed at him about the movie when we got him to say he liked science fiction--muahaha!
Picoreview of the trip: FABULOUS. We had fun walking around a bit of Vancouver, the theater was large and spacious, and we had tasty Thai food for dinner. Moreover, our screening was graced by the presence of the cute and charming Jewel Staite, who plays Kaylee! She did a Q&A after the movie was done, and it was chock full of giggleworthy things, including the tale of the oncoming competition between her and Nathan Fillion as to new and creative ways to flip each other the bird. >:)
Picoreview of the movie: DAMN that was good. Go see it. Avoid spoilers at all costs. I WILL be posting a spoiler thread, so if you haven't seen a screening, consider yourselves warned now to NOT look behind the huge lj-cut I will have all over it!
I will also be posting a longer writeup of the trip as soon as my brain comes back online; I'm fried from scattered sleep!
+1: Secondly, greetings to
pinkdormouse, now looking at my journal!
+2: I will be offline for the afternoon, as I have been given permission to attend a ship party we're having, but I will be online this evening. So I have to work only half a day today, which is good. See previous commentary re: fried brain.

The Philadelphia screening didn't have any appearances, but we had a great time (and managed to get enough extra tickets that day to double the number of people we had with us)

Date: 2005-06-24 03:58 pm (UTC)Hee hee hee. At DragonCon last year, Peter David organized a sneak attack on Jewel's behalf - he got called on for a question, and instead, had the entire audience stand up and flip Nathan off. It was hysterical. :)

Date: 2005-06-24 04:40 pm (UTC)Oh, dear. A scam Peter David participated in willingly? heh.
Although not as good as the one the cast of B5 pulled on Jason Carter...

Date: 2005-06-24 05:58 pm (UTC)(We make hardware here; "ship mode" is from 2:30 to 4:30 *every day*.)
Jason gets on the set in S2 and is so *serious* about things, worse than Michael O'Hare... and then when Michael York comes in to do "A Late Delivery from Avalon" he's all FAN BOY, and nobody can stand it anymore. So the cast gets this idea: They start a rumor that Marcus is going to get killed at the end of S2. Jason goes to Bruce, being the star, and says "They won't really kill me off, will they?" Bruce says, "Well, they replaced the commander, didn't they?" Even JMS plays along, not saying anything definite but hinting that he might.... finally Mira gets wind of it, and tells the gang to come clean. A good laugh is had by all, and from then on Jason is one of the bigger cut-ups in the crew.
