Tag, I'm it
Jun. 19th, 2005 08:48 pmI blame this on
leian. Not feeling much up for the tagging, but hey, I'll play along with the Fanfic meme anyway...
1. Why do you write fanfiction? What made you start?
I don't write much fanfiction, but what I've written has either been a situation where a) I had further story related to those characters leap into my head and demand to be written, b) it arose out of online roleplay (either of the MUSHing variety or via message boards), or c) the inevitable self-insertion thing. ;) Yeah, I'll own up to that for my much earlier fanfic. Happens to the best of us, doesn't it?
And can I really say that I write fanfiction if all of my current fanfic projects are on hold due to trying to write stuff I can actually sell, anyway?
2. Slash, Het, or Gen?
Assuming that "Gen" stands for "General", I'd say "Gen". I don't know enough of the fanfic community slang to know for sure if that's the right interpretation, but what fanfic I've written hasn't been oriented around the establishment of a relationship. Even my self-insertion, written-in-high-school stuff. ;)
3. What fandoms do you write in?
My current projects are either Elfquest or Russell Crowe movie fandom. I also tried to write a Thundercats fanfic in high school, and though I never actually started it, I was seriously considering doing a Battle of the Planets fanfic too.
4. What fandoms do you read in?
None, unless somebody specifically asks me to read a given piece, or unless a friend of mine is writing in a fandom in which I'm actively interested. I barely have enough time to keep up with my offline reading, much less online fanfic. :) If I had time, however, I'd probably cheerfully go looking for Battlestar Galactica fic. I've occasionally sought out MacGyver, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Remington Steele, and Lost in Space fic just to see what's actually out there.
5. What's the worst story you've ever written?
*chortle* That'd probably be the Thundercats fic. And no, you can't read it.
6. What writers are your inspiration?
Tanya Huff, Doranna Durgin, Julie Czerneda, Jim Butcher.
7. WIPs or completed stories only?
All of my fanfic projects are WIPs. Mostly because I don't write short pieces, and again, because my fanfic has to take a back seat to the stuff I'm trying to write for actual publication. This is what I get for doing well to manage a few hundred words a day. :)

Not feeling too terribly tag-arific, but if any of the ficcers on my LJ want to take a stab at it, what the hey!

Date: 2005-06-20 05:19 am (UTC)And yeah, I admit to reading Galactica fic with abandon...
...though I (chiefly) stopped writing fan fiction when I got out of comic books. I always felt comics made great fanfic fodder because they were home to tons of characters that are thrown around endlessly in the most bizarre situations, and virtually anything is possible -- and because they tend to have big gaps in what happens 'on screen' that lets you work in the cracks. :)

Date: 2005-06-20 05:26 pm (UTC)My own experience with comics is somewhat weird, since I've never really been a comics fan; mostly, it's all been Elfquest. But then, I've spent so much time on Two Moons MUSH that it's almost like writing fanfic anyway! Plus, I had all that urge to go write me a fanfic to finish up stories about my TM characters that I still wanted to tell. So I'm all about the sympathy for comic fic.
