Question for the Carbon Leaf fans

Anybody know what the "Paloma" of the song by that name refers to? It's one of the songs sticking with me off Indian Summer, but I don't know if the song is supposed to be addressing a person or a place.

And it's also vexing me, since I keep trying to put "Tacoma" in place in the lyrics, which just makes me giggle. :)

Cool. :) That might fit in with some of the lyrics of the song, though I don't know for sure. There are lines about 'stretching your wings', though.

I was kind of wondering. The lyrics (which can be found here) feel too personal for the singer to be addressing anything but a person. :)

I've read an interview somewhere - can't remember where - where Barry admits that it's not only addressing a person, Paloma was actually her name. He's traditionally very close-mouthed about the meanings of songs, though, so that's all I know.

Ah okay, thank you! That's enough to satisfy my curiosity, anyway! :) This is one of the strongest set of lyrics on Indian Summer, I think, and definitely one of the strongest pieces musically. I love the transition from the moodier beginning of the song to the more triumphant ending.

I agree ... it might be my favorite song on the CD. (Or, close second, to "Let Your Troubles Roll By".) Another interview talking about that song says that it started with the bass line, and was built up from there. The bass line really drives the song, and live, they begin it with an absolutely breathtaking bass solo.

Hee! I really ought to see about another CL show when I have extra bucks again.

I'm still having a hard five-way battle going between "Life Less Ordinary", "What About Everything?" (which I REALLY like, lyrically speaking), "Grey Sky Eyes", "Raise the Roof", and "Paloma".
