May. 2nd, 2005 09:18 am+0: I spent a good chunk of the weekend re-reading the first three Sookie Stackhouse books in anticipation of Dead to the World coming out in paperback tomorrow. What can I say, I'm a sucker for an amnesia plot--and after re-reading the first three Sookies, I have to admit I'm a bit of a sucker for Eric, too. ;) I think he's definitely more likeable in some ways than Bill. And re-reading the books in general reminded me that 1) I really (heart) Sookie, who pulls off what Anita never did: being sexual without being ridiculously over the top about it, and 2) I (heart) "Bubba". Hee hee. Hee hee hee.
+0.5: With more Charlaine Harris in mind, I went and picked up a couple more of her Lily Bard mystery series, now that I finally realized that the one I'd read, Shakespeare's Trollop, was actually quite far along in the series. I rather like the Lily Bards, too. Lily has that same earthy presence that Sookie does, though her genre is mystery rather than fantasy. I can easily see how Ms. Harris made the jump between genres, though.
-1: I did not do nearly as much editing as I would have liked, even aside from the books thing, because of not feeling too well. >_< Even when I wasn't reading the books, I was distracted and fried of brain all weekend. Most of the editing I managed to pull off was on Friday night when I finished up Chapter 17, while everyone was playing poker. I did at least manage to put a dent into Chapter 18, though.
+2: Got in a walk down to LFP with
solarbird on Saturday, which was good just for the sake of exercise and getting a few errands done. Dara and I took a bit of a detour this time, just to see what was further down one of the side streets off our usual route. We saw a great view of the lake, some cool old houses, a few dogs of varying degrees of friendliness, and an indifferent cat.
+3:
spazzkat came over to hang out on Saturday night and watch Doctor Who, though I wound up skipping that due to needing to take a hot soak. Now I've got to get caught up on the new Doctor Who as well as Lost, once I get the editing out of the way. Dara and I need to watch the second half of the Mirror Universe episode of Enterprise, too.
+4: I also got distracted by my bouzouki. My fingers have been insisting that I need to be learning how to play "Fortune", and so far I've managed (I think) to work out the melody line for the first part of the song--the bit before the B'ys come in singing "there's lots of fish in Bonavist Harbor!" Working out the actual playing of the melody line at speed, not so much. ;) But it has been quite satisfying to try to pick out the notes on the zouk anyway.
+/-5: Expecting another slow day at work; we'll see what happens.
+6: And oh yeah, almost forgot: everybody say hi to
mathmuffin, an old friend I know via
amethyst_dancer, who just got his own Livejournal! Hi Erin!
