spazzkat just pointed me at this over on Penny Arcade, a lament by another unfortunate who was not able to score tickets to the May 5th preview of Serenity:

I'm sorry to say it's not true - Gabriel wasn't actually able to see the film - but a healthy number of people will be watching it next week while I wail and clutch my boxed set. I clicked the link the moment I knew about it, but by that time a wave of browncoats had already crashed over the limited supply and absorbed every ticket.

I must have grieved for an hour. There is nothing I want more than to hear those beloved characters swearing in Chinese.

Those gifted with prescience or whatever, the ones who will caper and exult in the preview theaters, I hope they understand that there are some secrets propriety demands they hold until the film is actually released. I mean it. If you come up to me at San Diego and tell me "so and so is a robot" or some shit I will buy a bat'leth and I will cut you in fucking half. They sell things like that at the convention, legendary weapons, and believe me when I say that being rent stem to stern by a Klingon warblade is probably the least exotic death I could manufacture under the circumstances.

I take some small consolation in knowing that when it comes to this particular suffering, me_fein, mamishka, and I are not alone!

You know, people have been shrieking about "SERENITY! SERENITY!" for the past week or three, and I had no idea what they were talking about and didn't want to say anything and be branded a moron.

Then a friend sent me a link to the Penny Arcade cartoon today, with the header "they like Firefly" and I finally figured it out.

*giggle* Yeah, I've been more often thinking of it as "the Firefly movie" myself rather than by its actual title.

I was in the same boat as Firni. I figured it out recently and saw the trailer, which looks pretty damn cool. I'll watch it when it's in general release, and I never even saw Firefly.

If you get a chance to see the Firefly DVDs, I highly recommend them. As I mentioned to aerialscribe on another post, I'd be surprised if the movie doesn't provide enough data to let audiences who haven't seen the show get up to speed on what's going on, but I expect that it'll make a lot more sense to people who have seen the series.

Dara and I don't own the boxed set yet, but I'll be picking it up as soon as I have extra cash. :)

You don't understand. As near as I can tell, the only place the announcement about the preview was done was on the Browncoats fan site--and so by the time the news actually leaked out into the general net, it was too late. Here in Seattle, according to kieri, the tickets sold out in TEN MINUTES after they actually went on sale.

So no, actually, we never did have a chance at the tickets. ;P :)

Plus, the people who have seen the series will get the injokes. Because you just KNOW Jayne's hat will make an appearance.

It would make my day if someone said "I'll be in my bunk".

Considering how fast those tickets sold, I might as well have been in another country too! TEN MINUTES! They were gone in TEN MINUTES. By the time the word got off the Browncoats site, as near as I can tell, it was already too late.

So yeah, I may be in the same general area as one of the showings, but that doesn't do me a damned bit of good if I'm still unable to get a ticket. ;P :)

It so IS. There are many good Jayne MOMENTS in which he does not speak, (like when he eats an apple off a knife, or when in "Objects in Space" when he pulls the blanket off the wall to reveal hundreds of guns, and then rolls over and goes back to sleep.), but that is unquestionahly the best dialogue. *loves*

I want to make a Jayne's hat icon with the caption "REAL men love their mothers."
