Tonight I came home to find, in my mailbox, the part I was waiting on to get the treadmill fixed. I futzed around with the inner workings of the treadmill to get the thing on there, and seem to have successfully reassembled it, though the thing makes a bit more rattly noises than I remember. So I may have to take it apart again some time this weekend and figure out what I need to adjust.

BUT, since the console does once more work, I am now able to measure the distance I cover on my treadmill walks. So I'm borrowing an idea from [livejournal.com profile] mizkit and [livejournal.com profile] rain_girl_ak, and taking the Eowyn Challenge. It's a neat concept--providing folks with a means to motivate exercise by handing you the estimated distances in miles between various locations in Middle-Earth, so you can see how far you get compared to, oh, say, the Fellowship. Or Bilbo and the dwarves.

I've set out for Rivendell as of tonight, and it's a 458-mile journey. See ya, hobbits! You folks are cute, but kind of short.

That is a really neat way to motivate yourself. Being as I have access to a tredmill here on campus I might have to try that. ^_^

They sell the mile counters that you can put on your wrist. *wonders how much one would be* I walk across campus all day long and I know that my dorms are at one end and the art building is at the other. I'll check next time I am at wally world (wal-mart).

Hey, I like that idea. Where do you get the mileage from?

Oh! Excellent! Good for you, Anna! I'm not even a real Tolkien geek, and I've found it to be a really cool and motivating thing to do. Excellent!

What, can't I just ride an eagle the whole way? ;-)

Yeah. It's a little more like accomplishing something, rather than just walking for the sake of walking. But dude. If I don't beat you to Mt. Doom I'm going to be way upset, because I'm like 930 miles ahead of you! Roasting marshmallows sounds fun, though! :)

I got a couple of those things from McDs last year when they had their Adult Happy Meals, or whatever they called them and they really didn't work that well... tried measuring the distance to work on 3 different occasions, and it came out different each time... grr

Here (http://www.store.yahoo.com/n-e-wlifestyles/digstepcoun.html) are some pedometers that I've seen recommended by others on my friends list. They're not too pricey and all the people who use them are very very happy with them!
