Look out, Rivendell, here I come
Feb. 17th, 2005 06:59 pmTonight I came home to find, in my mailbox, the part I was waiting on to get the treadmill fixed. I futzed around with the inner workings of the treadmill to get the thing on there, and seem to have successfully reassembled it, though the thing makes a bit more rattly noises than I remember. So I may have to take it apart again some time this weekend and figure out what I need to adjust.
BUT, since the console does once more work, I am now able to measure the distance I cover on my treadmill walks. So I'm borrowing an idea from
mizkit and
rain_girl_ak, and taking the Eowyn Challenge. It's a neat concept--providing folks with a means to motivate exercise by handing you the estimated distances in miles between various locations in Middle-Earth, so you can see how far you get compared to, oh, say, the Fellowship. Or Bilbo and the dwarves.
I've set out for Rivendell as of tonight, and it's a 458-mile journey. See ya, hobbits! You folks are cute, but kind of short.
Miles to Rivendell: 1.3

Date: 2005-02-18 03:34 am (UTC)I get a free extra mile every day I take the bus to work, too, since it's half a mile between my house and my bus stop. Whoot!

Date: 2005-02-18 06:31 am (UTC)Regardless, if you want one that actually works, I think you probably want to be looking somewere besides McDonald's. I mean, c'mon, a toy handed out with fast food? It's going to be mass-produced crap made out of the cheapest materials possible, so of course they're going to be unreliable. (Dara also says that even good pedometers are somewhat touchy, but still.)

Date: 2005-02-18 06:37 am (UTC)And if you really want to lose weight and you have a potentially functional means to do so right there in your very own home, what's stopping you? Fix it. :) Or at least find out if you can. And if you can't, get rid of it. If you can't fix it, it's not really useful to have it sitting around your house collecting dust.
