And in the meantime...
Feb. 14th, 2005 03:34 pm+0: Having just finished up Chapter 11 of Lament, I can now turn my attention to making a hardcore sweep through the rest of Faerie Blood's third draft. I have worked it out; if I give all the chapters up through 21 six days each, and five days each to 22 and 23, I should be able to finish the draft by the time the estimated reply date from Luna rolls around. I hope I'll be up to the task!
-1: Yesterday, I noticed that the Cadbury eggs have hit the stores. Those evil little bombs of chocolatey, creamy goodness are a clear and present danger to my weight loss resolve. Fortunately for me,
spazzkat has selflessly volunteered to fling himself between me and any Cadbury eggs that cross my path.
+2: Paul came over both yesterday and the day before to hang out with
solarbird and me. We didn't do anything too terribly exciting, just hanging out and watching TV and playing video games. But hey. Sometimes low-key weekends are just fine.
He happened to pop over in the middle of my re-watching some of the Firefly episodes ("Out of Gas", "Shindig", and "Our Mrs. Reynolds"), and I was most gratified that he laughed out loud at several bits even if he didn't care for the camera work.
+3: Furthering my Firefly mood, I had a lovely chat with
mamishka speculating on what's to come with the movie--it seems Meems has unearthed two tasty little bit of news: 1) there is a three-movie contract involved with this flick, and 2) this first movie is going to be set six months after the last episode, "Objects in Space".
I'm hoping that this means that if they go ahead and deal with Inara's resolve to leave Serenity, the movie plot can fast-forward to whatever scenario has her cross their path again. Because that will, of course, be the interesting part of any separation of the cast. ;)
+4: We also watched the DVD Dara and I have of the theatrical cut of the original Battlestar Galactica, just because I was in the mood. And after watching that, I am absolutely inclined to agree with
llachglin's assertion that the new BG is the old one minus the cheese. Or as Dara put it, it's like they did a Google search for '"Battlestar Galactica" -crap'. ;) However, it was interesting to be able to refresh my memory about stuff the original series did--and I did notice one small detail in the original that the old one does not appear to have brought over: i.e., in the original, the different colonies have divergent enough cultures that they have different languages. We see a woman speaking 'Geminese' on one of the fleet ships.
It was amusing, too, to see the original referring to interplanetary cultures as 'nations'.
+4.5: And, we re-watched the first episode of the new series, "33", and watched "Water" for the first time as well. Paul's gotten interested enough that he'll probably be following the series now, though he's not yet caught up on all the episodes that have broadcast so far. Dara and I still need to watch "Litmus", which is on our Tivo.
