dr_pretentious, latest writerly-inclined person to join the ranks of People Who Look At My Journal. Also, I giggle at her user ID, which ranks right up there with
drglam. ;)
+1:
mamishka came over last night for another round of Firefly goodness, and it was good indeed, as we watched the other two unaired episodes I hadn't seen yet: "The Message" and "Heart of Gold". Which means I now get to join the ranks of Firefly fans who went "AUGH!" at the end of the latter. And oh, the giggle-inducing Jayne goodness in both of these episodes.
+2: Speaking of TV,
solarbird and I have now gotten caught up on the first of the two episodes of Battlestar Galactica that we'd missed: "33". Most excellent, and it racheted up my interest in this show another notch. Great scene between Apollo and Starbuck on the flight deck just before they take off on patrol. Great characterization of Tigh and Adama. Very tense, very gripping plot overall, and though the ending was pretty grim, I also appreciated the small spark of light added in to give a glimmer of hope to the fleet. NICELY done, over all! We'll probably get caught up with "Water" over the weekend. (Yay, Sci-Fi channel re-airing these episodes, so our Tivo could catch them!)
Also, Dara and I have both decided Starbuck is REALLY hot. *^_^*
Ahem. Er. Anyway, we may be rolling BG into our weekly TV visits with Meems, once we're done with Firefly, though we're also chatting about renting the Original Trek DVDs and watching those, too. Which leads me into...
+3: I have been in a major Old Trek mood lately, eagerly watching the episodes aired by the Skiffy channel, and especially "Mirror, Mirror" which re-aired lately. I really like that one, from the details of the costumes on the "altered" Enterprise to the attitudes of all the characters' counterparts in the mirror universe. Evil Sulu is deliciously slimy, Shatner in Evil Kirk mode (even as brief as that appearance is) is suitably barbaric, and even Evil Chekov pulls off being chilling. Uhura on the bridge providing a "distraction" for Evil Sulu while the others are busy trying to rig the transporter reminds you that OH YEAH, she is in fact a VERY HOT BABE--which was something amusing to keep in mind as I indulged myself with pulling out an old Trek novel to read in the bath. Enterprise: The First Adventure is fun to read as an accounting of how Kirk takes command of the ship, and I was particularly amused by the description of his laying eyes on Lieutenant Uhura for the first time--and struggling not to gape at her like a schoolboy, and actively wishing at least for a moment that he was still a lieutenant himself and therefore free to, ahem, er, fraternize. ;)
+4: Slow week at work continues; I have no build to test and probably won't have anything to test until next week. But I'm still getting work done, as this is allowing me to go back and open bugs on various broken test cases in an effort to get them all cleaned up.
-5: I really want to go home and write, though. Maybe I'll be able to sneak in some words some time today.

Date: 2005-02-11 10:34 pm (UTC)I couldn't believe the end of HoG -- that's the most thoroughly I've ever gotten my heart broken by a TV episode.
"Jayne, you do realize your mike is open?"

But YEAH about the ending of HoG! Definitely one of those "AUGH, Joss, you BASTARD!" moments, and yet, I can't really argue with it--since it would have been way too early in the series for anything BUT that outcome to have happened.
I do hope some movement on that front happens with the movie, though!
