+1: This week at work's been really slow. Mostly, due to several of my test servers getting hit by the Korgo worm, it's been about rebuilding all those boxes and getting them back onto the internal network. I've been doing some bug regression, but not much. Since we did the RC2 build over the weekend and we haven't had a build since, I don't really have anything to test right now. This may change some time today, though--I see we have another build in progress, finally.
+2: Mostly interesting to
+3: It's actually been cold this week, cold enough that I've broken my scarf back out and I have to wear my gloves on the way in to work. There's been frost every morning this week so far, and I almost slipped on the steps a couple of times. Cold. In February. If this keeps up I might think it's winter or something.
It's also meant I've been drinking more hot chocolate to get warmed up when I get in to work. Mmm, hot chocolate. Hot chocolate and chocolate milk both have been tasting incredibly good lately; I don't know if it's the fat in the milk, or what. Or maybe I'm low on calcium. But I'm trying to be moderate with the chocolate-related milk products, anyway.
+4: I've been at 167 pounds the last couple of mornings, and this pleases me immensely. I'm pretty confident I'll make it down to 166 by the end of the month, and maybe even past. I seem to have tuned up my metabolism a bit by my recent treadmilling efforts, to be sure; I've been a lot more hungry more often, generally to the state of just feeling quite drained and needing refueling, but once or twice almost hungry enough for my stomach to rumble. This is an odd and amusing feeling. I haven't been this hungry in a while.
I don't know if my metabolism being geared up is related to this or not, but I've also been a lot more restless sleeping again, lately. I've been waking up even before the alarm's gone off, and this morning I was awake a good half hour before the alarm. Even without the cat yowling at me to come change her litter box and give her some water.
+5: I have a game called Jawbreaker on my iPaq. It's got a bunch of randomly generated colored spheres, and the object of the game is to click on groupings of the same color to clear them off the screen. Ideally, you want to do this in such a fashion as to make bigger and bigger groupings of the spheres that remain, as bigger groups mean more points.
I've been playing Jawbreaker, anyway, on the way to and from work just to kill time. And my new high score is over 3500. Go me.
-6: I guess there may be a small side effect to my having dropped my iPaq in the bath after all: my A key has been sticking. Not seriously, but enough that I have to give it a good press to actually make it give me a character when I'm typing. It happens often enough to be noticeable, but not quite often enough to be annoying. Sigh.

That's what one of my professors at Bennington used to say when he saw a pretty girl (yeah, that was back in those days) "Satan get thee behind me!.... and PUSH!"
So... this note is not actually a kind thing. You say you're trying to lose weight and that you like hot chocolate. The thing is... I am willing to be a little evil... therefore, you are required to:
Go to starbucks. Try this new "dessert chocolate" drink they have. It's kind of like a hot cordial of rich chocolate syrup. It's ...fantastic. You only need a tiny sip. Go split the smallest size with two or three close friends. You WILL get high.
Incidently, I have the great version of that same sort of game on my palm. It has several variations. If you use the Palm, check it out at http://absolutist.com/bgpack/ (http://absolutist.com/bgpack/)

Date: 2005-02-10 09:54 pm (UTC)Maybe if I make it down to 164 before the end of the month, I will allow myself to indulge. ;)
I do not have a Palm Pilot; my handheld is an HP iPaq running Pocket Windows. This is mostly because I have a history of using Windows computers just because that's what I work with, and I wanted a handheld I could easily make talk to my laptops. AND I wanted a handheld that came with its own built-in keyboard. :) But I'm not surprised that there are many variations of that game out there.

Re: Jawbreaking and teeth ruination
Date: 2005-02-11 04:20 pm (UTC)Actaully, the suggestion may not be evil. I weigh every day (bad, I know, but I'm trying to figure out what food intake is optimal). On days that I eat less, I weigh more the next day. On days I eat more, I weigh less the next day. O_o I'd heard this was possible, that you can actually underfeed and cause your body to retain, but I hadn't thought it was possible FOR ME.
Long story short, trying some chocolate shouldn't get you off your goal that much.

Date: 2005-02-11 06:04 pm (UTC)Interesting that you have that flip around. I haven't noticed any such thing with me so far, but I've begun to have an awareness of when I've eaten too much in a given day, and when I know I need more fuel. So far it's been fairly reliable. The times I shoot back up a little, even by half a pound or so, seem to be on days when I have over a certain amount of snacks. Yesterday, for example, I had a cookie with lunch and three or four Lindor balls when
And this chocolatey drink stuff definitely sounds like a major snack. ;) Something I'd probably want to try on the weekend, since I know I'd have to walk for 15 minutes to actually get to it, and another 15 minutes back uphill to get home! :)
