+0: I forgot to mention [livejournal.com profile] mistwolf joining the ranks of folks what have been looking at my journal, as well as [livejournal.com profile] snowqueene. Hi y'all, and welcome aboard!

+1: It is the last day of January, and so far so good on the whole meeting my monthly weight goal. I was 168 pounds even this morning. And given that I started at 172 at the beginning of the month, I've actually surpassed my "two pounds a month" goal. It'll be interesting to see if I can keep it up.

I got in an extra round on the treadmill yesterday, since I didn't get to treadmill on Friday. This probably helped balance things out a bit, as I had an upward wobble yesterday morning, and a wobble right back down again for today's check.

And just for the sake of making treadmilling more interesting, I figured out how to make a Smart Playlist in iTunes (and for my iPod) that'll pull a random selection of my four-or-five-star songs, check which ones I haven't played in the last day, and pull thirty minutes' worth of 'em. This way I'm guaranteed a different workout set every time I get on the treadmill. Smart Playlists are groovy.

+2: [livejournal.com profile] solarbird and I caught a recent episode of the new Battlestar Galactica, and were surprised and pleased that it did not in fact suck. We were both also massively amused by Richard Hatch having a guest starring role in said episode--and particularly that the Original Apollo got to be in a situation where his character orchestrated a prison riot that resulted in the New Apollo getting his ass kicked. We theorize that this may well have been one of the selling points to convince Hatch to take up the role. He'll be back, too, from what I found on his filmography on imdb.com.

One thing I left out of my post about my birthday, as well, is that I finally got to see a couple of the episodes of Invader Zim that never aired, since [livejournal.com profile] mamishka brought them over for us to watch after I opened my loot. It was actually rather weird--because the two episodes we watched actually showed signs of a greater story arc and episode-to-episode continuity. On Zim. I mean, what's up with THAT? ;) However, satisfyingly, GIR was still very GIR. "I was the turkey all along!"

Lastly, Dara and I got in a watching of Monsters, Inc., one of the gifts for the aforementioned birthday. I'd forgotten exactly how charming a movie that was, and I appreciate it all the more after having watched the extras that come with the movie. Especially the "Original Treatment" of the story, in which the child in the plot was a six-or-seven-year old girl named Mary, who was resentful of her nine older brothers constantly scaring her and who ultimately teamed up with the main monster character (Sully, though in this version he was named Johnson) to get her revenge on them. Making the child in the plot a little toddler was an excellent decision; the whole "AAAAAAAH! SCARY CHILD ON THE LOOSE IN MONSTERWORLD!" thing is much funnier when it's a tot scampering around piping, "Boo!" Also, "The Birds", the short that originally ran in front of the movie in theaters, is still very funny.

The new Battlestar Galactica is amazingly and consistently -really- good. The mini-series, if you didn't catch it, is out on DVD and I highly recommend popping by a video store and watching it because it makes the show comprehensible.

The first two episodes are '33' and 'Water'. You saw the 3rd, which is 'Bastille Day'. They are REALLY good. Can't stress it enough. :)

I just started watching it a few days ago. I've watched the first three episodes, including "Bastille Day" with Richard Hatch as the rebel leader. I'll probably watch the fourth episode tonight, thanks to Glorious TiVo.

It's quite good. I loved the episode "33" where they were sleep-deprived and under constant assault every 33 minutes, but really all three episodes I've seen were good. If you haven't seen that ep, you really should. It's the first of the new series, though apparently there was an earlier miniseries that I missed.

I'm also intrigued by the Cylons that look human and are infiltrating the human population. They've managed to keep some of the cool parts of the original premise while skimming off the 1970s-style cheese.

Oh I LOVE that episode :) I just got the 1st volume (the only one I didn't have) on Ebay last week... should have it by Saturday, as well as Happy Tree Friends: Vol. 3-Third Strike (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0430170/?fr=c2l0ZT1kZnxteD0yMHxzZz0xfGxtPTIwMHx0dD1vbnxwbj0wfHE9aGFwcHkgdHJlZSBmcmllbmRzfGh0bWw9MXxubT1vbg__;fc=3;ft=20;fm=1)... Wheee!!!

(And now I find that they're releasing an Invader Zim boxed set in April with extra stuff... :( after I got the 3 individual volumes... feck
