Today, I am 36 years old.

I got a lovely card in the mail from [livejournal.com profile] wildshadowstar on Friday. Little sister, thank you. *hugs* And my older brother Donnie called me tonight as well, which was grand; I don't talk to him nearly as often as I should, and it was very good to hear about his current attempts to get his musical career back on track.

[livejournal.com profile] flashfire, [livejournal.com profile] grumpywitch, [livejournal.com profile] lyonesse, [livejournal.com profile] gerimaple, [livejournal.com profile] mamishka, [livejournal.com profile] mylildementor, [livejournal.com profile] janne, [livejournal.com profile] firni, [livejournal.com profile] starfallz, [livejournal.com profile] xionin, [livejournal.com profile] hippybngstockng, [livejournal.com profile] emmacrew, [livejournal.com profile] jessicac, and [livejournal.com profile] eveshka: thank you all kindly for your wishes for my day, too!

Mostly, the day has been a quiet and laid-back one. I had the pleasure of seeing that I'd lost another half pound when I got up this morning, which was unexpected but most welcome. If this rate keeps up I will definitely be a few pounds past my goal by the end of the month--though as [livejournal.com profile] spazzkat has sagely reminded me, losing the weight is easy. It's keeping it off that's the hard part.

[livejournal.com profile] solarbird and I walked down to the shopping center today, and amused ourselves on the way by seeing how far we could see from our vantage point on the hill. Turns out we can see as far as the Sekrit Ninja Route from Kenmore, which pleased Dara immensely; she likes living on a hill. So do I, for that matter.

We got cake fixings, and I threw Dara a bit of a curve by requesting an orange-flavored cake, but she humored me on the grounds of it being my birthday. So we got an orange cake mix, chocolate frosting to put on it, orange squeeze frosting and sugar zoo animals to decorate it, and vanilla ice cream to go with it.

And we went out for sushi with Paul and [livejournal.com profile] mamishka, and lo, it was deeply tasty. Especially the tropical roll. Every time I have one of those, I am amazed anew at the way salmon goes with mango and strawberry.

Then we came back to MurkNorth, and I was given delicious cake. Dara used the bottle of orange squeeze frosting to excellent effect, as well as the sugar lions and zebras. We took pictures. I'll post one as soon as Dara pulls it off her digital camera.

Loot tally:
1) Extended edition of Return of the King, finally! Yay! Been looking forward to this. :D Thanks, Dara! :D
2) DVD of Monsters, Inc., which I've been wanting--not only because it's a cute movie, but because I wanted that "For the Birds" short at the beginning. Thanks, Paul! :D
3) Gift certificate for a massage from our friend Liz. YAY! Thanks, Mimi! :D
4) Cute little hatpin of Stitch dressed up like Elvis, with ukelele. I (heart) Stitch! Thanks, Mimi! :D

All in all, a most satisfying day!

But I'm going to have to make Dara ration me the rest of the cake. ;)
