Not a bad day so far

risu gave
solarbird and me late Christmas presents last night, and I must now take a moment to speak fondly of what she gave me: a lovely old Victorian locket. An actual antique Victorian locket, with an actual pedigree, which she bought for me because it has a moon and a star on it and because it was the closest thing she could find to a pendant whose description I admired in one of my favorite books over a decade ago. That, ladies and gentlemen, deserves a round of applause!
+1: Also, she gave Dara a nifty little vacuum robot thingie that is supposed to whirr around your house and vacuum your floor for you, and when it runs low on power it's supposed to wander back to its docking station and go to sleep. I am awaiting the reaction of the cat to this new addition to our household, which I posit will go something like 'What... the hell... is THAT? It's FOLLOWING ME AAAAAAAH'. On the other hand, we may never see Polly again.
+2: Everybody say hi to
neutronjockey, who has just joined my Friends list after wandering into the Land of My Journal last night.
+3: While I am still bummed about the OKP sinking into a coma, many of the diehard regulars have now migrated to a new board and so far, so good--it seems to be going well. They've even brought back the Musicians' Corner forum, which has always been one of my favorite things about posting up there--because a big chunk of my GBS fandom is about playing the music as well as just listening to it. Also, I groove on talking to other bouzouki players.
-4: Rumor had it that we were supposed to have snow last night, but not only did we have no snow when I got up, most of what was left from this weekend's snow has now melted. Foo. I expect this means we've had our one snow of the season, and this is probably a good thing, as the grownup portion of my brain acknowledges that too much snow makes it difficult for Anna to get to work. And work is good. Work pays for food, shelter, books, and the Internet!
+5: Having been reminded by a post by
seimasin that Neil Gaiman does yea and verily rock, I have added the LJ syndicated feed of his blog to my Friends list. Reading the post of his she quoted reminded me also of why I have added Teresa Nielsen Hayden's 'Making Light' to my Friends list as well, because the high count of incredibly useful writing clues to be found there is essential. In fact, I'd better go post that link in
scuzzboppers!
