Now that I've actually figured out why the hell Winders wouldn't make noises playing at me on web pages SHUT UP even if I had my browsers set to not play sounds, I'm taking another look at Firefox.
And boy, this thing is FAST. Maybe this won't suck. (I'd been cranky about there not being some sort of easy setting to turn off playing sounds on web pages--IE has one, Opera has one, it doesn't seem like it'd be all that much of a hassle to include in the preferences. I was also a tad bit vexed that if I try to sort my bookmarks by name in the bookmark manager, it intersperses all the individual bookmark links with folders surrounding them, which looks messy to me. There's no easy way to make it order the sort by 'folders first, then individual links'.)
(And for the interested, it seems that when I installed SP2, there was a new plugin installed that feeds sounds through wmp.dll. I turned that bugger off and that shut up my browsers nicely. No sounds for me till I bloody well ask for them!)
