solarbird got this link from Andrew Sullivan; it's a rather reassuring story about a young man in Oklahoma who came out as gay in his community, and was shocked as said community actually banded together in support of him when Fred Phelps and his hateful "God Hates Fags" contingent tried to go there and protest his church for not coming down on him harder.

Thank you, you folks in Oklahoma. I needed to hear about this. :) This is exactly the kind of thing I was talking about in my Making It Personal post back on 11/5: supportive, loving talking from both sides of a volatile political issue. And folks remembering that no matter what their personal beliefs are, supporting members of one's own family and community is a good thing indeed.

Oh, I knew there were. :) It's just nice to see a story like this come out of a part of the country you wouldn't normally expect it to come out of!
