Because I am bored at work, and waiting for a developer to fix a couple of bugs in a couple of test scripts, and waiting as well for several machines to install a new build on them since the build we were supposed to be testing this morning was screwed up enough that we couldn't run half of our tests, I now present this summation of Stuff That Has Happened This Week.
-0: Very tired this afternoon, due to not getting enough sleep this week. Not for any particular reason--mostly just because I've been going to bed later than I ought.
-0.5: Because of being so sleepy and off the mark, I spilled my stupid soda all over the place. My keyboard, my pants, my chair, the bench, the floor, and some tiny portion of my new red bag. Fortunately the most vulnerable of these, the keyboard and the bag, seem to be fine. I got all the soda I could off the keyboard and out from between its keys, and it does not appear to have taken any damage. But still, this has not been a happy week for me and the proximity of electronic devices and liquids.
+/-1: Great Big Dream! This, for those of you who are not denizens of the OKP, is code for "a dream involving one or more members of Great Big Sea, with or without sexual content". As I have lamented on my journal before, such dreams with me are always, vexingly, of the latter variety. ;) And this time around it was just WEIRD. At a GBS concert as per usual, with
solarbird and
spazzkat along; it seemed to be taking place in either a gym or an auditorium of some kind. And while the B'ys were starting in on "Donkey Riding", I happened to have my eye caught by Séan futzing with what looked like a highly unusual mouthpiece for a piccolo. I remember going 'ooh!', which caught his attention, so he let me see it. However, this also interrupted the song, and while I don't recollect actual snarky commentary between the band members, there was a definite feel of 'would you like to join this number any time soon there, McCann?' Heh.
The weirder part of the dream, though, was that the concert could not get underway after all. And this was because Alan was mysteriously stricken with the inability to sing. It wasn't clear in my mind--or, for that matter, in the dream--what was going on, but the options were either a) he's suddenly got laryngitis, or b) he got cursed. Yes, cursed. Hey, it was a dream, what can I say? ;)
I remember various portions of the audience deciding to try to just hang out and maybe start singing to the B'ys since the normal state of affairs (i.e., the other way around) wasn't going to happen. And I remember an effort to actually lift the curse on Alan. But things got muddled after that point, and then I woke up.
-2: The busses in the afternoon have been highly unpredictable lately. I'd already observed that the 245's arrival near my building at Borg is erratic, but lately, the 342 has been weird in its arrival times at the Houghton Park and Ride as well. Sometimes as much as 15-20 minutes late, and once, the 342 that is supposed to show up there around 5:15 didn't seem to arrive at all--unless for once it was actually a little ahead of schedule and I just missed it.
It's very irritating when the busses upon which I am depending for my commute can't actually arrive reliably at their intended stops at their intended times. I've already switched over to the 522 + 545 route in the mornings, as I can put up with the 545 a lot more if I get to have a window seat, but I don't want to switch to that route in the afternoons unless I absolutely have to. The 545 in the afternoons is almost always standing room only when it leaves Microsoft. :P
+2.5: On the other hand, I did run into
aerialscribe on the bus this week, when he was late coming in the other morning, and we had us a pleasant conversation about writing, and mutual commiserations about the world of being a software contractor in the Seattle/Redmond area. Yay! About the conversation, that is, not about the contracting.
+3: Holy crap, it's been foggy lately. And today it was cold, damp fog as well, the sort that soaks right into you no matter how many layers of warm clothing you're wearing. I've never seen so much fog that I can recollect in the last few years. One of my coworkers, who also lives in Kenmore (specifically, the Juanita area), seems to think this is unusual for the area. But the fog's been in Redmond, too, once I get to my stop by my building. So it doesn't seem to just be a 'north side of the lake' thing.
I like this just because it's a change from what I'm used to in the weather around here, and also, it gives me an excuse to wear my new purple gloves, too.
+4: I've switched off daily duties with the aforementioned coworker. Up till now she's been testing the Windows Media Player and running its daily BVTs and functionals; I've been testing the Windows Media Server, and doing the same. Now we're trading, so she'll do the server and I'll do the player. The goal behind this, apparently, is to let me help out with a lot of problems with the functionals on the player side, as they are practically brand spanking new. And they're sucking. And I have a better automation background than my coworker does.
This has gotten me points with my lead, who gave me a big ol' 'thank you' for being willing to trade off with practically no notice. On a side tangent, I had a pleasant conversation with said lead re: writing and how no fewer than four of my friends are pursuing professional writing careers. When I mentioned that one of said friends is working on a project with Lawrence Watt-Evans, he perked right up. That was gratifying. :) So I told him to look for the book coming out by Lawrence Watt-Evans and Carl Parlegreco.
+5:
mamishka came over to watch Firefly on Wednesday night, and that was Good. We had tasty pizza and even tastier chocolate gelato, and tasty TV viewing to go with it. I'd really rather forgotten the goodness of Firefly; after watching the first two episodes, I had that warm, fuzzy, satisfied feeling I get after watching substantially satisfying entertainment!
Plus, Nathan Fillion is really cute. We loves the Captain Mal, yes we do. ;)
+5.5:
spazzkat came over last night to hang out, to show us pics and video from his quest down to Disneyland this past weekend, and to play our shiny new copy of Halo 2 with
solarbird. This was also Good. We had tasty pork chops (which were incredibly good to me for whatever reason; I think something in my system just really wanted pork), and Paul gave Dara and me both some Christmas stockings decorated with Stitch. ;) Dara called them "alien bags of GIMME!" We were both quite amused and charmed.
+6: Something about the combination of my new shoes, my new coat, and carrying less crap on a daily basis is definitely making my back happier. I've started having noticeably less back pain at random times. It hasn't gone away entirely, but there is a definite difference in the way my hips are arranging themselves as I walk in these new shoes, and whatever that's doing, it's a good thing. I think that it's also helping that these shoes are a little bigger on my feet than the last ones were; I'd had them start cramping up my toes on one foot, and that's not happening anymore.
-6.5: On the other hand, I've had more tension through my shoulders lately. I don't think it's the coat; it doesn't feel tight through my shoulders. It might be having just the one small purse I'm carrying these days, and slinging it off one shoulder or the other. I've caught myself having to consciously relax my shoulders several times this week.
On the other hand, it may just be stress. These are stressy times.
