My new shoes are mostly cool, except for the part where the left one has been rubbing against the left side of my foot all day and has gone and rubbed a raw spot on the pointy, sticky-out bone right under my ankle. Grf. I've had to slap a bandaid on it.

I don't know if this means I just need to break the shoes in a bit more, or whether I'll have to wear thicker socks, or both. The socks I'm wearing today are pretty thin, and this didn't happen yesterday when I was wearing the stripey socks, which are thicker.

Moleskin is wonderful for new shoes. Pick up the thick padded kind, cut a hole out of the center so that no sticky part is applied directly to your skin, and apply. I take tons of it on long hikes.

Drug stores sell it in small, inexpensive quantaties. You can get it at some grocery stores too.

Another solution is to wear two pair of thinner socks. Then the socks rub against each other, rather than against you. :) Just heard/learned of this trick this weekend.

i hate that... especially when it makes nasty blisters... i had one on each foot early on this year... and walking to work made them hurt all the more...
