Another question for the geekily inclined

Okay, so here's the sitch...

Usually, I answer comments in LJ via email, because it's easy. I like to just be able to fill out the form at the bottom of the comment email, hit the button, and boom. However, prior to installing XP SP2, I was accustomed to seeing a browser window pop open with an LJ page that told me whether my comment was posted successfully. Now, I get nothing.

Does anyone know if this is an artifact of the new Popup Blocker stuff that SP2 has? Or perhaps something involved with the new Firewall? These are my two best guesses, and if either of them are accurate, I don't know what to do to fix this so that I do continue to get the messages when the comments go up correctly. I like getting that feedback.

I'm not exactly sure if it is the pop-up blocker or not, but you can add in sites as exceptions to it, which is worth a try.

Go to Tools->Internet Options->Privacy, and click on Pop-Up Blocker settings. Add livejournal.com to the allowed sites.

I don't think lj has any popup problems, although there's always the possibility of someone sticking some javascript into a journal entry. I'm amazed that doesn't happen more often, really.

I'd already added annathepiper.livejournal.com and www.livejournal.com, but not livejournal.com. Trying that now to see if it works...

This may or may not work, but as you post a comment via e-mail, it opens up the following before loading the URL of the entry with the comment itself:

http://www.livejournal.com/talkpost_do.bml

See what happens when you stick that in.

Stick that into what? I know what that URL is, I see it all the time when posting comments, and that is the page that always opened up when I hit the "Post Reply" button at the bottom of emails before.

I don't want to have to do an extra step to get back functionality I had before. :) I want to find out, if I can, what changed with SP2 and what setting I might have to tweak in order to make this work the way it was working before.

Whatever you use that's supposed to allow certain things to pop up? I don't know how that's designed, but I was thinking that maybe the blocker is catching that and disallowing it so I figured it'd be worth a try as something you might be able to edit.

The Popup Blocker functionality is a new menu command within Internet Explorer--and I'd already added "www.livejournal.com" and "*.livejournal.com" as allowed sites in there. I tried to add this URL, but it won't let me do it, possibly because it's a complete URL rather than just a site. I THINK that the Popup Blocker wants only just site addresses. But I don't know that for certain, since I'm pretty new to using it myself.
