mamishka party--but well hey, this is what happens when I get distracted by medical news. ;P
As Meems has posted, we had a big surprise party for her on Sunday afternoon. This was mostly the brainchild ofpoetry_lady, who emailed me out of the blue a few weeks ago and went "Psst! Hey Anna! What should we do for Mimi's birthday?" And I went, "Uh, err, I dunno..." She patiently kept at it, asking me questions to get my brain in gear, and finally the whole surprise party plan came up--along with the plan for the Send Mimi to the Spa for Her Birthday Fund. So that was all good.
The party itself was scheduled to take place at Liza's, not far from Microsoft as it turns out... only a few scant blocks down the road from the building I work in (at least until the end of this week). Her place is in a smallish apartment complex tucked a bit back from the road, nestled in among assorted trees and other greenery. We found it with no trouble--or at least, we found the apartment complex with no trouble.
Finding the actual apartment, despite Dawn-Marie's directions to look for the big colorful purple monster sign that was to serve as a marker for the right door, was a bit more of a challenge.
solarbird and I wound up wandering confusedly around between the various buildings, trying to stay out of sight of the parking lot in case Meems came in--and then, just as three quarters of my attention was occupied with asking for help from a couple of young women on a balcony and the rest of it was going 'Ooh look, there's a little brown bunny under the trees right over there', Dara spotted Meems' car out of the corner of her eye and pretty much went, "JESUS! HIDE!"
We ducked out of sight. And apparently we confused the hell out of an old guy in one of the apartments, because he stepped out onto his porch and asked us what we were doing. Dara ruefully scampered over to explain to him what was going on.
Then I heard what I thought was Meems crying "WHOO HOO!", so I waved at Dara and we came around the corner and OH LOOK, there's the monster.
So we went up and knocked on the door about two seconds after Mimi got up there. We had THOUGHT this was supposed to be a scenario of 'we all show up first and then jump out and yell BOO', but as it happens--Mimi was there FIRST. It's kind of hard to surprise the party girl when she's the first one on the scene. ;) But Meems clued in fast and waggled a finger at us and cried, "Sneaks!"
Then Dawn-Marie showed up, and so diddarthhellokitty and kingchiron, and tinlail and lyricae, and we all had pizza and cake. And we admired Liza's purple-and-green decor, and her cats, and the Panic Mouse toy she has for them which is a battery-powered device that whips a toy mouse on a dangly wire back and forth for cats to bap at with their paws. And we watched Cold Comfort Farm, which was funny even though it was the second time I'd seen it (I kept working on composing a long email to my Norwegian pen pal on my handheld, but looked up every so often to appreciately ogle Rufus Sewell).
And it was all good.
