+0: Went out for sushi last night with [livejournal.com profile] spazzkat, [livejournal.com profile] solarbird, and [livejournal.com profile] mamishka to celebrate the birthday of the latter. Yay raw fish! Most notably about this sushi excursion was that our sushi joint of choice has this new thing called a Tropical Roll, which involves a stunningly good combination of salmon, mango, avocado, and strawberry, with a wasabi and blueberry sauce. Dara described it as candy sushi. It was very light and tasty, and there were eight pieces; we all had two each.

-1: House news continues to be vexing. Dara and I looked at a couple of houses on Thursday evening, neither of which really appealed to us, though we may wind up making an offer on one of them anyway. It's in Kenmore, and it has some attributes about it that annoy the both of us--for example, the lower level is really badly arranged and doesn't make good use of its space. The master bedroom has this really oddly laid out conglomeration of bedroom and bathroom sort of mishmashed together, and you have to go through the bathroom area to get to the closet. However, there are some nice rockeries in the yard around the house, and there's a nice little deck accessible from the living room. We're trying to also go look at another house in Lake Forest Park today if we can, and if we don't care for that one we'll probably make an offer on the one in Kenmore.

-2: No word yet from the hospital about what the heck I've got in my neck. I'm trying very, very hard not to freak out about this, and am mostly succeeding, but every so often it jabs up from the back of my mind again. Bah.

+2.1: My boss at work is being really sweet about this recent development in my life, and made a point of asking me if there was anything he or the team could do for me. I like this guy. I'm going to be sorry to not be working for him after next week.

+3: Polly seems to have forgotten her little trip to the vet by now. She's taken to returning to my side and purring even when she doesn't want her treats, so yay! They wound up taking out one of her teeth, though, so we have to soften up her food for her for the next few days. And she's got a deeper mew than usual, possibly due to her mouth being all tender or something.

?4: Current read: With Child by Laurie King, the second of her Kate Martenelli books. I'm about 50 pages in so far, so not really knowing if I'm going to like the book yet. But I've liked everything I've read by her so far.

?-5: I'm still in Adobe's jobs database, and last night they mailed me a hit for a potentially interesting job. It's a testing position that's asking for localization experience--which sounds like it'd be right up my ally. Except that the problem with this is that they also want someone with heavy Macintosh experience. I've got the Windows testing experience, no problem, but I've never tested on a Mac in my life. I went ahead and applied for the job via their web page system anyway, but I kind of doubt that they'll call me. Sigh.

+6: Working on some bouzouki fingerwork again. I got slammed with the huge urge to learn how to pick out "Billy Peddle" (as played by Great Big Sea), and so far I've mostly worked out the first half, which is the jig in the key of D. That part's fairly easy, and for added fun, I'm getting a decent feel for how to do some slide-y things and hammer-y things with the strings to add some flavor to the play... and some beginning idea of when to hit both of the strings on the two lower courses as well to get that extra dimension of sound. However, the tricky part of playing this ditty is going to be modulating into the second half, which is the reel in the key of A. Just by looking at the writeup of the melody line that a GBS fan has online, it looks like there's a good five or six fret reach I'm going to have to cover unless I can figure out how to move down to play in fourth position rather than first. So this should be fun.

I'm also targeting, in general, learning the following things out of my mandolin fakebook, which I can do on the zouk since I've got it tuned to mandolin G-D-A-E tuning right now: "The Swallow Tail Reel", "The Swallow's Tail Jig" (I keep confusing these two, and how exactly they're named, but I know one's a jig and the other is a reel, and the reel is the one I can play right now), "Coleraine", "The Kesh Jig", and "King of the Fairies".

+7: I see someone new has Friended me, apparently coming in from Crowe/M&C/TOFOG fandom. Hi [livejournal.com profile] wildcardgal!

Hi there. I hoped you wouldn't mind. I read your fic and when your livejournal happened to show up in a "journal read by someone whose journal is read by a friend (real life) of mine" kind of cross-reference I recognized it and added it.
