Well, that was exciting
Apr. 23rd, 2004 03:25 pmMicrosoft got hit with a power outage this afternoon, just before 1pm; apparently, it took out the entire campus briefly. Most of the power came back after a couple of minutes, but in my building, a couple of the major labs where they have racks of servers and a bunch of us contigency staffers working on 'em were still hosed. So we all sat around for about an hour asking each other, "So what happened, anyway?" And, "Should we go home or what?"
And around 2pm my lead passed the word for us to scram, so we did!
So I'm home early. Which is cool, so I can take it easy for the rest of the afternoon; I'm still considering myself on furlough, but wanted to go ahead and post about this since it was weird and unusual. Somebody said something about the "main EPO" going out, but I don't know what an EPO is. When I got outside with my coworker we found it was pouring down rain, so my money's on the weather having wreaked a bit of havoc. Michelle gave me a ride over to my usual bus stop, and by the time I got on the bus the rain had stopped; by the time I got off the bus everything was gorgeous and clear and the wetness on the ground was evaporating so fast you could see it, almost.
April weather in Seattle. Gotta love it.
