Seattle GBS Show Update!

The Moore has GBS's show on their May calendar now--and it looks like the B'ys are playing with Carbon Leaf. :D More importantly, the tickets are now ON SALE via Ticketbastard! So those of you who are local to Seattle or within reasonable distance, if you wanna go, let's be making with the ticket buying!

oooh! carbon leaf are great fun. i saw them open for GBS last year, i think it was.

Yeah, Fred from our jamming group has evangelized Carbon Leaf to me before, and they're fairly well talked about on greatbigsea.com's board now. I've only listened to their take of "Mari-Mac", and I am naturally biased in favor of GBS's version--I mean, you just CAN'T top Séan. ;) So I can't give a good opinion of them yet!

You used to be able to get tickets for Moore shows at the Paramount box office. You might be able to save Ticketmaster fees there. I'm not sure it's still an option, though.

Yeah, that many time zones IS a bit far to travel just to ogle a band, even if it IS fronted by the lovely and talented Alan Doyle. ;) That kind of distance, I'd expect him to throw in some bouzouki lessons!

I'm going to try for floor--I'm a bit disappointed if there are going to be actual seats at this venue, it sort of half-defeats the point of a GBS concert, at which no serious fan is going to be sitting down anyway. :) There's too much dancing involved! Or, as the lovely Mr. Doyle is wont to bellow out mid-song, "VERTICAL MOVEMENT!"

But if there are seats, I still want seats as close to the stage as possible. :)

I haven't been there for a while, and almost always for punk RAWK kinda shows, but for those there was always a smallish open area in front of the stage. You know, the pit, for people who like to leave their seats and get up close to the action.

I have no clue if they'll have that kind of thing for the Newfie Celtic trad/pop kind of thing that is GBS. Hopefully, they will, considering the fan following.

It's too bad they're not coming to a place like the Showbox, or an outdoor venue. I guess they're at the level of popularity where they're too big for an intimate club setting and not big enough to draw a festival crowd on their own. Oh well.

Anyway, their last album sucked.*

* (not really, but that's the cliche about how now that they're so popular their tickets are expensive and their shows aren't as cool and they've sold out and fuck them they've forgotten their fans and I'm going to pout over in the corner nursing my cigarette and drinking bitter black coffee. Posers.)

Yeah, I noticed how the last show they played in Seattle was at the Paramount rather than at the Showbox, as most of their other Seattle shows I've attended have been. Half of me wants to be happy if this does in fact mean GBS is getting a big enough local following that they can play bigger venues, but on the other hand I really do miss the Showbox, where we could get right up at Stage Bob. :D

Then again, hopefully Dara will be able to handle the Moore! We'll have to get earplugs.
