Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] solarbird! :D :D :D

When the Great Big DVD first came out in November, I held off buying it on the theory that I might get it for Christmas.

I didn't. So I held off buying it on the theory that I might get it for my birthday, in late January.

I didn't, but this was only because my beloved partner had quite the adventure trying to get it for me! She told me, a few days before my birthday occurred, that something she had ordered off amazon.com was going to be late; I suspected it would be the DVD, when she said that she hadn't been able to find it locally.

Then, we had extra fun when our credit card got CANCELLED. This turned out to have been caused by the credit union through which we have said card having gotten one of their servers physically stolen--so they had to issue new cards to everyone whose data was on that box.

But this meant that the order for the DVD got cancelled, so Dara had to re-order it once we got our new cards.

Yesterday, the DVD FINALLY arrived.

And boy, that was FUN.

As anyone who's been regularly reading my journal knows, my last GBS show was ten days after I broke my arm last June, so I wasn't able to enjoy it as a GBS show is meant to be enjoyed: i.e., clapping, bellowing the lyrics, and lots and lots and lots of Vertical Movement. So I'm all about the readiness for a new show at this point. And having the full uncut version of the concert they'd edited down for the TRIO show was a damn fine way to whet my appetite. ;D I'm STILL giggling over the screwup at the beginning of "Jack Hinks".

It was great fun, too, to grab my guitar and try to see how many of the songs in the concert I could keep up with.

I watched all thirteen of the videos, and OH MY WORD the loveliness of the hair of Alan the Doyle in "Ordinary Day". There's REASONS Alan's hair got its own sonnet out of me. That video only reminded me. ;D

Much giggling, too, at the karaoke tracks even if I can't sing "Mari-Mac" properly in its native GBS key.

Much smiling at the documentary with all the interviewy bits we only glimpsed on the TRIO show. Especially large smiles at the comments from Bob about the history of Newfoundland, and the band's collective comments about trying to establish longevity. (As far as I'm concerned, they're not going to have a problem; I'm going to listen to 'em for years to come.)

Many giggles, too, at the Home Movies. I was looking for the much-rumored Pantless Alan, but didn't catch him. This was probably an artifact of it getting close to 11pm by the time I got to that part of the DVD, and also being distracted by the fact that I hadn't written anything yet.

Also, OH THE LOVELY HAIR ON EARLY BOB!

I foresee much re-watching of this in my immediate future.

*THUD*
