Tonight's word count report
Nov. 3rd, 2003 11:35 pmI snuck in about three hundred words at work today in between prepping servers for tests and running tests on said servers. The rest of it came tonight... and I am still ahead of the game, with all of the buffer earned over the weekend intact with a word count of 6,789!
Lesson #1 learned in today's writing pursuit: Apparently, even under the rules of Nanowrimo, I can't quite avoid self-editing entirely. I had to tweak Chapter 1 yet again today as I realized that I needed to add yet another couple of things, a sentence here and a couple of random words there, to maintain continuity between it and Chapter 2. But that is I think the farthest I'm going to let myself edit during this month, and hopefully it'll carry me through.
Lesson #2: My outlines invariably underestimate how many words I need to describe what I want to have happen. After three days of writing I am still working on the events I put down as "Chapter 1" in the outline I did a couple weeks ago, but so far I've got two chapters and a likely third before I make it around to the events of the outline's "Chapter 2".
Bed now.
Addendum, before bed: Weird. Word claimed I had 3,429 words before I saved and closed my file, but then when I checked it with the wc command up on lodestone, I got a count of 3,424. Opening it back up in Word, I got 3,431. WTF?
