Ladies and gentlemen and others, I HAVE BEEN OFFERED A JOB.

[livejournal.com profile] solarbird drove me out to Volt's headquarters for an interview with two folks today, and I have to say that it went amazingly well. They didn't ask me any whiteboard questions, possibly due to giving me a break with my arm. And I was apparently successful in my attempt to sound alert, smart, and interested, because Andrea came out and told me I had strong feedback about being very forthcoming and quick to provide good answers.

Note to Self: Telling recruiters that I do not have ASP but that I have worked with another server-side scripting language and that in my experience as long as you know how to script you just have to learn new syntax to get a new language is a GOOD THING. So is telling them 'Why yes, I am very interested in this position and here's why' and including as one of your reasons that the days you'd written Javascript on your last position were days you'd actively looked forward to coming to work.

Amusing thing #1: First question out of their mouths was naturally what the story on my arm was. So I started going into it and the other manager goes, "Hey, I read about that!" On [livejournal.com profile] kathrynt's journal, apparently! But that chick's name has gone right out of my head.

Amusing thing #2: Coming out to get me from the waiting area, Andrea saw me reading a Patricia Cornwell novel, so we got into talking about her up the stairs to the conference room. This woman is far and away the best of the bunch I have dealt with at Volt.

The details: STE level 1 position with the Windows Digital Media Core Services team. They are in building 50. And they want me to start on the 7th. For those of you keeping track this means that no, I will definitely not be able to accompany Dara to Thailand. About which there is much nervousness even though I tell myself that this is probably better for our survival ability, to get some income in here again. Not to mention that this stupid arm would be a hindrance, as having a person with a broken limb trying to look after a person who has just had major surgery sounds like a bad idea to me.

Also not to mention that Dr. Titelman (got that spelling confirmed) at the Bone & Joint clinic IS somewhat concerned about the state of the nerves in my arm, and he wants to check them out on the 11th.

But. Still, a HUGE flutter of nervousness. The gods seem to be saying that Dar and I will have to be apart for a month. We're strong, we'll get through it, but we don't have to LIKE it. :P

Yay job! Isn't it funny, though? Just when things seem to have hit the worst, something good comes up.

Idly, I point out that you're the one who hit the home run. Not her. ^_^

Well, it's the future now, so the buses all fly and they have a machine to brush your teeth for you.

Quite a good idea. When Paul was home after his surgery and I was away for my grandfather's funeral, I called him up every few hours to check up on him. :)

TWO! CENTS! A MINUTE! to THAILAND! With a connect fee, mind you, but for anything over half an hour, it's by far the cheapest way. I'm forseeing a lot more hour-long calls than three-minute calls.

YAY for JOB!

Much WHOO! and HOO!!!!!!! on the job! Maybe we can have lunch sometime after my return...(when I work, I'm in building 43, but am an avid lunch commuter).

It's too bad about the trip to Thailand, but I second the calling card idea. Hopefully, I'll be able to come over and visit again while she's gone. :)

Big happy thoughts for you both.

RAH!

Wonderful news about the job!

Being separated during the surgery sucks, but you will get through it. *hugs*

I don't guess we'll see you at WorldCon, though, since we can't afford it because of Keith's accident *last* year. Yuck. I'm deciding that bicycles just suck.

Well, it was on my cellphone and in the same time zone. Just several hundred miles away. And he was extremely out of it on percoset and in pain.
