I have commenced writing A Novel, and the general goal is to see if I can write a thousand words a day in between working on the story notes and appropriate backstory where I need to. Thus far, the word count records are as follows:

Day 1: 1016 words total
Day 2: 2096 words total
Day 3: 2647 words total

(All hail the Word Count menu command in Microsoft Word! Though I suppose I should be careful; does "Chapter 1" actually add to your word count? ;) )

*LAUGH* I, personally, always delete two words from Word's wordcount, to make up for 'Chapter one', in fact. :)

Efficiency!

Since word patterns introduce some randomness to how many printed pages something fits into, and word length introduces some randomness into just how much typing is involved, and connotational complexity introduces some randomness into just how long it takes to choose each word . . .

Efficiency suggests that if you're going to give up the traditional method of counting words on some sample lines or pages and multiplying that by the number in the document, you might as well just run a Word wordcount and take the result as gospel. :)

DO NOT QUESTION THE WORD COUNT!

DO NOT NITPICK THE CHAPTERING!

THESE THINGS ARE HOLY TO THE GREAT GOD GATES, IN THE SHADOW OF WHOSE KINGDOM YOU WALK.
