Slowly I am getting a handle on this notion of communicating in Japanese. Though it's taking me a bit to handle some of the pronunciations and remembering what version of verbs go where. I had a bit of a problem with "kinō watashi wa hon kaimas demo neko araimasen." I was TRYING to say "tomorrow I will buy a book but not wash the cat," and forgot that "kinō" is actually yesterday and not tomorrow, so I had the tense on my verb wrong. However, I had fun on the way home trying to practice the pronunciation of "kinō watashi wa neko araismen," and inquiring of Polly what kind of cat she was and whether she did in fact speak Japanese.

I am not yet versed on how to say "What are you, nuts? Get me the treats, biped!"

Hmm, how about: Baka desu ne, ningen wa ogiri o ataerimasu yo!

(Lit. Aren't you stupid, Give the free food, human! Credit most of this to my Japanese Dictionary.)

By the way, do you have a decent Japanese teacher in this area? Once I get financially back on track, I want to re-start the Japanese lessons.

Atanao seiko inuremas.

(Which i've probably butchered badly in attempting to put in into Romanji in anything resembling phonetically correct order).

Good luck with it. Or, more literally, many prayers for your success.

"It is adequate."

I had a brief fascination a few years ago with English to Japanese loanwords -- biru, nekutie, terebision, egusanduwich, etc. They're probagly not even close to correct, but there you go. I found them amusing as all get out, I don't know why. But the idea of saying "Godzilla wears a necktie while playing baseball and drinking beer" cracks me up.

Okay, I think I'll wander off now. Sorry.

Ah, but I bet that "biru" is probably from German, not English. Japanese also has lots of German and French loan words, like "aribaito" (part time job) and "kuremu shuu" (cream puff).

Anna and I are both going to the Experimental College. I like our teacher - the course progression is not particularly fast, but, well, for me, that's really good, because I'm so really, really bad at this. ^_^
