Have I been busy enough yet? These are the things I've managed to accomplish today, in preparation for going away for Norwescon this weekend.

  1. Some more swearing at my laptop, since the power supply on the thing has decided to get wonky. I just had the thing spontaneously power down on me while I had the first version of this journal entry in progress, which torched that entry as well as my ability to finish balancing my checkbook. Money was apparently clueful enough to pick up where I'd left off, but the Livejournal client apparently isn't that clever. Oh well. Note to self: not to bump the freggin' power cord till the computer I bought off eBay gets here tomorrow. Hopefully its power supply will behave.

  2. Called up the technical support people at Creative Labs in order to ask them what the hell to do about my poor MP3 player, since I'd managed to confuse the hell out of the thing when trying to hook it up yesterday to rip my last couple of new CDs that weren't on it yet. Apparently I managed to confuse the heck out of the technician, too. He was nice and all, but the most he was able to accomplish was showing me how to get it into a diagnostic mode in which I can try to defrag the unit's hard drive. Which it's doing right now. At least in theory. All the display says is "DISK DIAGNOSTICS PROGRESS". There's no progress meter or anything, so I can't tell whether it's actually accomplishing something, or whether it's actually cleaning up the drive. I hear a lot of activity, but. Since it's such a huge hard drive it's probably going to take a while even if it does work.

  3. Emailed the house to ask who will take care of the cats, plants, and birds this weekend while we're gone, as well as bringing in the mail, and taking out and bringing in the bins for trash and recycling.

  4. Called up my chiropractor's office to verify with them that yes, I did send in payment for the appointment I missed last month. Which was vaguely annoying, because the receptionist's computer was several weeks out of date and she insisted that I call up their billing people to verify that I had indeed sent the payment and that it had cleared with them. I don't think I should have to do that. Grump.

  5. Paid some bills, though I had to transfer money between accounts to take care of the biggest ones. Stupid expensive health insurance. Stupid unemployment. Grump, grump, grump.

  6. Set up online banking with Bank of America so that hopefully I can start downloading monthly data into Money rather than having to type it all in by hand. Being able to do that online would be keen.

  7. Balanced the checkbooks, even if my computer decided to horf up a hairball in the middle of it all.

  8. Asked Jane for the key back that I gave her to the basement, since she said she was leaving Din now. Removed her from the house email alias as well.

  9. Told the folks on Two Moons I'm going offline for the weekend.

  10. Changed the kitty litter. Let's hear it for kitty maintenance!

  11. Ran off copies of my insurance card to send to the people that Dr. Wechkin charged for the results of my pap smear, and called them up to ask them whether I need to send in the $36 they're charging for that. They said they'll bill my insurance. Oh goody.

  12. And oh yeah, speaking of unemployment, filed for this week's claim, too.

  13. Actually wrote the dates and check number ranges involved on several old checkbook registers so next time I have to go find one I don't have to read every bloody one to find the one I'm looking for.
