So yeah, I hear tell something cool happened in DC today. I didn't actually get to watch it, since Obama was being sworn in right about when I walked into work--though I did see a lot of streaming video getting watched on monitor screens, and the IT guys had the news going on the big screen over their area. And there was indeed a bit of yayness going around the floor this morning, in general. One of my coworkers announced there were cookies with Obama's face in her area, and another one was selling shirts with inauguration designs on them to help her kid raise some money.

I did read the text of the inaugural speech, though, and I shall indeed agree, that was awesome. I particularly liked the acknowledgement to the agnostics and atheists of our country, and the pledge to "restore Science to its rightful place." YES. THANK YOU.

Overall, though, I think I shall paraphrase the sentiments expressed by [livejournal.com profile] kathrynt, to wit: good on ya, Mr. President. Now please, please oh please, don't fuck this up.

And in the spirit of amity with our brethren north of the border, I shall also express my deep pleasure that "Ordinary Day" did in fact make the cut for 49 Songs From North of the 49th Parallel, Canada's playlist for Obama.

'Cause really, that song just sums up today for me: "at the end of the day, you've just got to say it's all right."

Here's to the hope that things will, indeed, be all right.
