I've just ordered it a new hard drive that according to the web page of said hard drive's manufacturer should be compatible with this model of Compaq laptop. I've also ordered it a memory upgrade and a new power supply.
Total of purchases, coming in under three hundred dollars. Which is way cheaper than a new laptop. So maybe if I actually get to remain employed for a while I can do something like get a replacement frob instead. But we'll have to see if the noises my manager at work is making about extending my contract hold up.
