Great Big Sea Karaoke contest!

Check this out, you guys: my beloved B’ys have announced a video karaoke contest! They are handing out instrumental tracks for three of the songs off the new album and telling people to get creative with video responses!

Anybody local want in on this with me? :D

(I wonder if it’d still count as karaoke if you actually learned the chords to the songs… *eyes guitar meaningfully*)

ETA: My favorite part of the whole contest description: Do you ever sing along with GBS when no one is looking? Yes. YES I DO. Also when random passersby are looking, when an entire crowd of my fellow GBS fans are looking, when solarbird and I are busking, when I’m boinging down the street with my iPhone’s earbuds on, when I’m going past the fruit stand at Pike Place Market with the cute market men, when I’m browsing the shelves at bookstores, when I’m noodling around on the guitar, when I’m on the treadmill, and when I’m feeding the cats!

That's a good question; nuts on karaoke, we could pull this off with our own instruments... only problem is (a) video gear, and (b) practice time. I mean, if it were Captain Kidd we could do it in a day's worth of work, but we're talking brand new songs here...

Well, I'm envisioning at least having the karaoke track in there, but maybe Rags as well. ;)

As for gear--any halfway decent smartphone can take video, that's not a problem. I'm more thinking about what should actually be IN the video to make it suitable for the purpose! Minimum case scenario, hell, an hour or two will TOTALLY give me the lyrics and the chords to "Nothing But a Song", and I can video myself with my earbuds in my ears playing on Rags and singing. It ain't like I haven't done that a million times before anyway!

But yeah, for people who aren't me and who aren't going to be memorizing most of the new album anyway for the show next week, a bit of practice time would probably be called for. I may have to call an emergency Jam. :)

Thanks! Yeah, I don't normally handle crowds well myself, but I make exceptions for Great Big Sea. It probably works because I can ogle Alan the whole time. ;)
