As a basic tip for attending Norwescon, the hotel food is adequate but overpriced. The diner across the street however is excellent. [livejournal.com profile] spazzkat and [livejournal.com profile] solarbird and I had a very tasty meal over there this evening.

I did indeed wind up blowing most of the afternoon doing nothing of import; in fact, I blew it finishing up playing Ravenhearst, by way of familiarizing myself with my new place of employment's products. It was fun.

But we did re-emerge for dinner and the Masquerade, and the most notable costumes this year included a very, very good full-body gryphon with extendable wings. In the Novice class, even. That was very, very impressive. The big Master class performance was a multi-person skit involving an alternate-history rendition of the meeting of the Aztec emperor Montezuma and the Spaniard Cortez, which was pretty impressive-looking. We also had a dude with a "Starkiller, Darth Vader's secret apprentice" costume who had unfortunate lightsaber failure, which was immediately followed by a dude in a Ghostbusters outfit complete with a stagehand taking a "ghost" out into the audience for him to aim at and capture. Which of course prompted the MC to make a crack about how it was fortunate that the Ghostbuster was on hand since the lightsaber apparently really did kill somebody. ;)

I bailed on the half-time movie previews, mostly because I wasn't expecting to see anything terribly cool, but also because I just wanted to come out into the bar area and hang out and people-watch a bit. I am delighted to have seen somebody go by in a giant full-body GIR outfit, which warms my Invader-Zim loving heart. I've also seen somebody in a halfway decent Rorschach, although unfortunately his mask is of course static; it'd be interesting to do a proper Rorschach mask, though I can't imagine how you could pull it off.

Lots and lots of folks wandering around in steampunk-type gear at this con; that seems to be the new thing. I am not displeased by this. It's a nice change of pace from Goth, anyway.

HA and a gent in a fancy hat just came up and gave me a light bracelet. Hee. Now my right wrist is pink.
