Last night [livejournal.com profile] solarbird, [livejournal.com profile] spazzkat, and I had the pleasure of going downtown for a live Cinematic Titanic showing: the second of two shows in Seattle, and the last on their current tour. We got the movie Dynamite Brothers, and oh my yes it was crappy with the 70's kung fu sort of crappiness.

About half the nerd population of Seattle was lined up outside when we got there. I say half because the other half had clearly gone to Friday night's show (hi [livejournal.com profile] solcita!). I was charmed to see an old coworker of mine from the Times there, though we didn't see anyone else we knew. Also charming was the person who brought a Tom Servo with them. Life-size, I think!

The warmup act was a dude named Gruber pairing up with J. Elvis Weinstein and TV's DVD's Frank (apparently he's changed his name now that they're doing Cinematic Titanic, hee) to entertain us, which brought suitable lols. Most lolworthy: Gruber reciting beat haiku poetry while J. Elvis played the bass; Gruber and J. Elvis doing a pitch for WADD, the radio station for people with short attention spans; and Frank doing his theme song for "Convoluted Man".

Everybody was in fine form during the actual movie, and it was great fun to hear the riffs done live, especially with audience reactions playing into it. A whole lot of Frank's jokes got big groans from the audience, which in turn made him wail "I KNOW" and Mary Jo, Deep 13's own Mommie Dearest, laughing herself silly.

After the show pretty much nobody left--because the cast was out doing signings, and that was very cool. I was very happy to finally make it up to the table and thank them for so many years of laughter. Trace was sitting there at the table with a copy of Legacy of Blood near him, and Paul couldn't tell what movie it was; I pointed it out to him, and Trace overheard us and did a few amusing Vanna-White-esque poses with the DVD cover. I told him we had the movie already, but if we hadn't, I would totally have bought one on the strength of that alone. ;)

And! I could not resist asking them if they knew about Death Bed. Josh said that he had heard of it, and Mary Jo said she had it on her Netflix queue. Everybody signed my copy of The Oozing Skull that I'd brought along, and Joel even posed for a pic with Dara and me, although Paul is not sure how well it came out on his iPhone. If we get a postable version of the picture, I'll update this post with that!

All in all a highly enjoyable evening, and it put me well into the mood for buying Blood of the Vampires when it comes out on the 19th!
