The Doyle has just announced that he is going to be in Russell Crowe's next movie, the forthcoming Robin Hood movie formerly known as Nottingham. Not at all surprisingly, he's playing Allan A'Dayle. With a lute!

He's posted about joining Russell for a number of days in Australia, working on archery and swordfighting and everything. Alan is going to be BUFF.

Dude. This is going to be the BEST. MOVIE. EVER.

*nodnodnod!* I'd been squeeing about the movie anyway, Russell is so good in period films in general, and playing Robin Hood under Ridley Scott's direction should be delicious. And by delicious I mean 'Russell's arms should return to Gladiator-era glory because ZOMG LONGBOW'. <3

Then I squeed again because Cate Blanchett joined the cast as Maid Marian.

I would expect that the chances of songs emerging from this are very, very high, as they do seem to do that every time they get together! Also, I lay money on surprise Crowe/Doyle mini-gigs for the lucky sods within reasonable proximity of the set.

LOL! Guitar Hero, or Rock Band? No wait they HAVE a band! Two of them! I do wonder if the whole GH/RB genre of games just seems lame to professional musicians or what; hell, it seems weird to me and I'm just this chick who likes to knock around on the guitar. I pick up a GH or RB controller and I keep wondering where the strings are! ;)

Though on the other hand, I can totally see Russell and Alan having a GH marathon. It would be amusing to see who won!

I'm not even talking about musicians writing songs when together in general! These two specific musicians are on record as having frenzies of songwriting every time they get together. That's how we got My Hand My Heart, and also, "Company of Fools". :)

Meanwhile, we don't know if Alan will actually be writing any music for the movie. He certainly could I suppose, but he didn't mention in his post; he may instead have himself a research frenzy for appropriate extant period songs and just do versions of those. This will be another very interesting question.

I think it's more like a series of specials, but I guess since they're considering the Doctor Who specials the current series it would work for Red Dwarf, too.

I only watched Season 8 the once, should pick it up and watch it again.
