This might not suck
Nov. 4th, 2008 10:51 pmIt is good to know that the Onion can still bring the Funny: Nation Finally Shitty Enough to Make Social Progress
I particularly like this part:
It feels appropriate to break out the Martha Icon tonight, since I feel mellower about tonight's events than might be indicated by Uhura Squee. It may be the Mike's and the two fingers of Glenlivet (thanks again,
technoshaman), but mostly I'm just feeling relief at the moment. I've had my share of cynical moments about this election, to be sure; part of me has felt like I've had to choose between a mailbox full of bees on one hand, and Cthulu on the other. I'm feeling less cynical tonight, after seeing Obama's acceptance speech. At the moment I'm feeling like although we may have the turning radius of the QEII, we might at this point actually have a shot at, y'know, turning around.
I must also give props to McCain for a classy--and swift--concession speech. A lot of my relief tonight comes just from knowing that this isn't going to be dragged out, that we won't have to deal with voting challenges. At least on the national level; as of this writing, we're still waiting to hear whether Dino Rossi is going to concede the WA governorship to Christine Gregoire.
On a more practical level, though, I'm thinking, okay, Mr. Obama, you've talked the talk and you've sounded pretty good. Even if I'm cranky at you for not supporting gay marriage, and even if
solarbird and I have been particularly cranky at you for supporting the FISA bill.
As of January 2009, let's see if you'll actually put your money where your mouth is. I'll be waiting to see if you can Bring It.
I particularly like this part:
Carrying a majority of the popular vote, Obama did especially well among women and young voters, who polls showed were particularly sensitive to the current climate of everything being fucked.
