I was just waiting for this: the fine folks at GreatBigSea.com have overhauled the site again in honor of the forthcoming Fortune's Favor. It is gorgeous. Very nice figures of Fortune herself here and there all over the place, and plus, there seems to be some new stuff to look at as well--there's a new journal that's apparently going to be all about Séan's dog.

Best of all though is that they have a page up now for the album, including a complete track list, though I don't see cover art up yet or any lyrics. The liner notes however are HY-LARIOUS and remind me yet again exactly why I love my B'ys:
We honestly can't remember who played each track on each song. Somebody played the strumstick on "Banks of Newfoundland". We suspect it was Bob, but we can't find it to dust for prints. Hawksley and Kris played the drums, but Alan swears some his can be found on "Oh Yeah". Sean figures he played guitar on several tracks but couldn't, for the life of him, discern which ones. Hawksley insists that Sean played banjo on "Heart of Stone". Sean insists he does not know how. There are no bag pipes in the studio, but there are some on "Heart of Stone". We suspect Bob is responsible. Alan is a terrible piano player, yet he may very well have played the piano on "Walk on the Moon". Murray has a vague recollection that Kris hit one of the bouzoukis like a hammered dulcimer on "England". There is a cheap Casio keyboard part on "Long Lost Love" that no one will own up to. It would be impossible to count the number of passersby that sang the gang vocal on "Oh Yeah". We do know for certain that the lovely gal you hear sweetly singing in "Dance Dance" and "Hard Case" is Jeen O’Brien. She's an awesome writer and singer.

Looking forward to this album more and more. And to the TOUR that should be coming shortly thereafter!

'kay, ya has me totally convinced, too.

and of course you do know the name of the capital of Newf and Labrador?

Fort McMurray, of course!

Angharad,
from the opposite Big Rock, but very very fond of screech and cod tongues, all the same!

They've got another song up in the media player, too – Love Me Tonight.
The tune reminds me a lot of some songwriter, but the name isn't coming... Anyway, better than Walk On The Moon (that is, less produced and electronic).

I especially like the fact that no one would own up to the Casio keyboard part. ;)

long time ago, and far away, in a past incarnation, I worked on the Hibernia oil development offshore of Newf.... as said, "long time ago". The Newfs I met (and occasionally kept house with, and even once had a glorious dalliance with) were all very nice people indeed, fully up to the standards of Salishaan in all regards. ^_6

enjoy your weekend! I'm headed off to Brier and points southward, for fun, games, adventures and at least one cuppa really decent coffee.

Oh, count on the weekend being enjoyable, and I'll wave as I whiz by on the lake road (St Vinnie's thrift shop is definitely on my trade route this weekend, as well as the Goodwill outlet store, which is where most of my clothing finds are, umm, found).

Fruit I rather doubt I will find, but I am on the prowl for more pillow-cases in broderie anglaise or other white lacework, and new curtains, plus the endless need for cheap furniture-grade wood (I take things apart if they are cheap and have good wood, and then rework them). My trips to Sea Atoll as much as anything are about scavenging amongst the leavings of consumerist society, and amazing the Customs agents with what I have managed to find.

Dancing the Maypole is, of course, a secondary attraction, but likely to have delightful consequences. ^_^

Music Sunday -- yours, with suitable pie of course?

no pie, but probably a more plentiful supply of ... *ahem* adult beverages ;)

Fortune's Favor - good Canadian boys with degrees in English lit didn't really mis-spell it like that, did they???!?? *cringes while opening a new tab with their new website*

ETA: oh thank GODS - they DID spell it properly :)

Had I not already been overbooked, I'd be tempted on the general theory that there'd be something I could play lying about; or if all else fails, sing, being the veritable queen of winging it on the fly.

However, Saturday night is May-dancing, and Sunday night is, umm, horizontality with somebody nice. And Monday, dreadful Monday, is back to the grind of the cesium mines...... the things that we do for money, ne?

I don't have to blame you, because you 'fessed up :) However, said non-Canadian fingers spell all sorts of other words correctly and string them together in quite interesting ways. So you're forgiven *giggles and grins*

I've had Screech! :D It is very yummy. Not bad on it's own, but I like it even better with Coke (which is probably blasphemy to the natives, but oh, well! lol)

LOL!! I had missed the liner notes. Didn't have a lot of time to explore the new site, but it looks very, very cool. Especially looking forward to hearing from Tosh :D

Have you checked out the studio/video set vids on canada.com? If you've missed the hilarity of watching Sean try to entertain himself while the others work, you must check it out. Let me just say, I'll never use a vice grips again and not think of the b'y ;D

Apparently Sean has had that mouth since birth (read the new bios on the site!) LOL

The best part about the vice grips moment? My connection chose that very moment to hiccup and the video froze on the close-up of his crotch with the tool hanging from it. I had to stare at that until things caught up, probably a sold 30 or 40 seconds. Still can't decide if that was a hardship or not :D

It was a trial, let me assure you ;D So much so that I'm tempted to watch it again to see if that...horrible glitch happens again! LOL
