It just wasn't cooperating with some *cough* files I'd downloaded. They'd work, but the files took a long time to open. I also ran across a FFXIII trailer I wanted to watch (.avi file) and funnily enough, there was no sound. So I went looking for other possibly-necessary components, and voila.... suddenly all is shiny!
