Filk rec!

Today I listened to one of the albums I purchased at Worldcon: cadhla's Stars Fall Home. And high holy hand grenades, that was a fun listen. There are any number of reasons this album appealed to me: the general quality of her voice, the hard driving bodhran in "Follow Me Down", the references to Persephone and other Greek goddesses, the guest appearances by other filkers (including Kristoph Klover, whose voice I recognized from much older filk as soon as I heard it), the wonderfully comic-book-geeky "Four-Color Love" chock full of superhero goodness, the song about zombies, the great vocal harmonies...

But most of all, I am full of love for "Evil Laugh", the Firefly filk. Browncoats, you seriously can't miss that. <3

This thing is definitely a keeper, and I will be on the lookout for further musical goodness from Ms. McGuire!

Electric guitar on Take Advantage, and riding the faders for the backing tracks to River Lies, IIRC.

Oh, Anna, you've got to come to the Wayward more often! Vixy and Tony play there regularly, they will be performing at the Sereniversary party on the 29th, and Vixy often does Evil Laugh.

Seanan was actually visiting Vixy at one point, and they all performed together.

Plus, Vixy is the one who wrote Mal's song, which if you haven't heard, you must hear.

I have heard tell of this Wayward of which you speak, and have had a quarter of an eye on the recent posts on the filk list about the party.... and indeed, I should drag my introverted self out more often to these things. ;) Much will depend this weekend and next on whether I can make my story deadline! (Hee, I'm still kind of grooving on having an actual deadline I have to meet.)

Mal's Song... I think I may have heard this, if that's on the Bedlam Bards Firefly filk disc? (Which I've heard and of which I do not yet own my own copy, but I'm clearly going to have to buy it!)

Mal's song is not on the Bedlam Bards Firefly filk disc, which I bought when they performed at Wayward, and it is just lovely. If you have the Done the Impossible DVD, a lot of their stuff is on there too, and Mal's song is also on that.

May you get to rewatch it soon! I re-watched the opening two-parter of the series not too long ago, and it was wonderful. <3 It really makes me hope for more Firefly in some form or another. Novels would be good!
