I have played my bouzouki today for the first time in ages, and I owe this entirely to
raise_a_jar sharing with me lovely post-show experiences she has had after her latest Great Big Sea concerts. Damn, I have missed this. People, please remind me I need to do this more often, especially when I'm feeling out of sorts and blue. If there's anything better than listening to GBS music to perk me up, it's actually playing it.
I still cannot play the bridge of "Paddy Murphy" or the bridge of "Jolly Butcher" well enough to keep up with the recordings of those songs at speed, but it's good to know that I still remember at least in theory where the fingers are supposed to go. Which makes it all a matter of practice. And although it took me a few minutes to remember how to do an A chord and a B minor chord, those came back too.
But oh my, I can feel even the four or five songs I played through, both in the ends of the fingers of my left hand and in the muscles of my forearm. Did a little fingerwork as well as just playing chord lines on the GBS ditties, and that was enough to make my hand go "wait WHAT are you wanting us to do?" I went easy and didn't play too long. Still, even that little bit felt so very good. I need to do this more.
