Yes! A pretty decent episode here, with some good creep value and, finally, some more stuff that feels wonderfully familiar to fans of book!Harry!
Hee--"Ooooo EVIL HAND" is totally what I kept thinking all throughout this episode. That one line from Angel is forever emblazoned into my memory, I swear.
Anyway, definitely creepy, these kids running around with the severed hand of a dead thief and using it to walk through walls. Extra creep points for the hand being covered in wax and used as a candle, and the bits where the ghost of said thief materializes while riding around in the body of one of said hapless kids.
I did a huge happy books fan dance with the remarks thrown around in Harry's voice-overs this time about how technology doesn't work for him, and the bit where he and Bob were flabbergasted that his answering machine actually picked up a message for once was great. :D I especially liked how Bob wished him luck turning it on. The only thing that would have better there is if the machine would have fried just after it played the message for him. Hee. And this played nicely into Harry revealing how a tech-impaired wizard does his spying: with BEES IN A JAR. Yeep! Very clever use of sympathetic magic there, not to mention way to get the audience cringing as he puts that jar up by his ear and his eye!
And speaking of things that made me do a happy books fan dance: HARRY THROWING FIRE AROUND at the end! FINALLY! It's about time we see him pull a fireball on something! ;)
Definite creep-inducing moment where the boys are coming out of the bank and one of 'em gets chopped in half coming out through the wall. To wit, eeew. And as a followup to that, I'm giggling to see Butters showing up now as a recurring character at the morgue, even if I still can't see that character on screen without thinking of the South Park kid. Or Butters' best line from the book he shows up in, Dead Beat (but I won't blow that here).
They're playing the whole "Harry knows dark magic way too well" angle really hard--especially the part about how Harry is familiar with the addictive nature of black magic. There better be some followup to this, some sign of Harry having to deal with temptation, something season-closery perhaps.
And I am still not entirely accustomed to TV!Morgan being not really adversarial even if he doesn't like Harry very much still. It will be really, really fun to see how this changes with next week's episode...
Because we're finally getting Storm Front. Here's hoping they do it right. I'm beginning to think it'll be good. :D
